i consider remote control to be one of the most underrated and entertaining games shows of all time... the last great swan song of MTV. thank you, ken! #kenober
Ken Ober was that rarity in the entertainment business--a lunch pail kind of guy who just went about his business without drawing a lot of attention to himself. I had the pleasure of getting to know him socially after his successes of the late 80s, and he always seemed somewhat embarrassed that he was no longer viewed as he once had been when his star was more visible. I think over time he just understood that like pretty much everyone else in the business, he was just a guy trying to make an honest living and that whatever fame or notoriety came his way, he was just a guy trying to do his best. #kenober
Yay, crowdsourcing! I'll give AmericanSuperstarMag.com credit for pretty quickly yanking the story that supposedly "debunked" the rumor, apologizing, and deleting the user's account who'd posted it. Meanwhile, the NowPublic user who made what was actually quite a snotty little post (original headline "Ken Ober Dead? No. Ken Ober Alive") edited his post, albeit ineptly, with no hint of apology. Why the fuck would anyone ever take it upon themselves to deny that someone's died based only on their inflated opinion of themselves as an entertainment insider from Vancouver?
I was somewhat pissed off about this because while I didn't know Ober myself, some of my friends did. It was saddening to watch this play out on a couple of people's FB pages as people reacted to the news, then were given hope that it was a hoax, and then were let down again when they found out the truth. He was clearly someone many people had great personal affection for, and it seemed to me this needlessly complicated people's grief. #kenober
Aww! I loved this show. Him, Colin, Adam Sandler. They (well, not Adam, I don't think) did a tour and I saw them at a town near me when I was in college. RIP, Ken. #kenober
@TriedandTrue: There were so many people associated with Ken Ober that are huge stars now , I loved all his hows all the people (including him) on them. In that time he was BIG and I am sad that he is gone... Good Times...Good Times. #kenober
@Uncle_Billy_Slumming: Thanks. Send that idea to Gabriel; they always seemto be tweaking the site.
Replies will have to do it for now, I guess, especially here at #tips. More people seem to be checking out the string, which is nice. (And at least now the tips are visible when you're logged in -- that was weird. [Thanks for fixing that, technical folks!])
I dunno, I think we have a pretty good chance of leaving behind some significant damage before we go extinct! I guess I'm an exuberant pessimist. #obits
