    i can't think of any news anchor who seems smarter than andy richter. not that jeopardy tests intelligence, but still they're all kind of gravitas blow up dolls and richter is sharp.

    Why do we think our news readers are smart? Because they know how to read a teleprompter? Please. This country mistakes being on TV with being smart. They are news readers. Nothing more.

    @TabithaIapetus: I still appreciate that glimmer of intelligence and engagement though.

    There's a botoxed Barbie Doll newsreader in my Anytown who's been on the local news forever. When you first lay eyes on her, you're thinking, There's another dumbo anchor lady...but actually there's a hint of intelligence in her delivery; a spark in her eye that makes me not despise her like I despise all the others. It can happen.
