The brouhaha over this girl is pathetic, absolutely pathetic. There are numerous warrants out for her arrest; she's a criminal! Why are people not calling the cops when they're seeing her? Because she's cute-ish and therefore shouldn't be arrested??
Somehow I have managed to read like 12 pieces on her without figuring out exactly what she did that was so wrong, except lying about cancer (and I know other people who've done that, so ho hum). And... fucked over Vice? I don't know. I can't see anyone getting outraged over that. Ever.
It's Friday, I'm lazy, so what'd she do, in a sentence or less?
@HeatherNumber1: If you go back to the original post, it mentions her stealing a total of $60,000 from various folks. Also, she is just generally really freaking irritating.
P.S. If you truly know other people who have lied about having cancer, I think it is time to reconsider the circles you travel in.
I detect a strong gender correlation with her detractors. Are most women commenters also Kari-hataz? If so, why ladies? Don't flee from the hypnotic pull of Korean Abdul Jabbar. Surrender. You know you want to. Let Jabbar do the rest.
This is so premeditated. "I, uh, made bad decisions, and um... yeah, I wish I could take them back. Otherwise, screw everyone except those who pay attention to me. (insert quirky signoff here)" The camera must have powered down before she could explain that her actions were motivated by a recent diagnosis of SIDS or something.
And the basketball fan thing is BS too. She would have googled whatever it took to form an opinion and sucker that Animal writer.
Are you serious? If those are the kind of lies you accept from your friends (I'm sick with cancer, give me money) I would seriously re-evaluate my friendships. Friends GIVE you energy. You feel better after being around them. False friends, users and people like Kari (based on what I've read here) drain your energy. Accepting that people have both positive and negative qualities doesn't mean tolerating abusive behavior. (We're talking emotional abuse here.)
P.S. Who tells someone they love them when they don't?! That's yucky.
P.S.S. If someone is using and lying about it, that's one of those things that becomes obvious pretty quickly.

So I guess the junior high schools in your area are closed due to swine flu?
OK, cheap shot. But my point about examining the lies we accept from our friends as a matter of course still stands, I think. I mean, I don't even encourage anyone to look closely at everything you're told by friends. At some point, the wiser step is just to accept the person for who they are, rather than parsing every aspect of what they say.
Yeah, lying about cancer is bad behavior and worth shaming, if that's really what Kari did. But without knowing the truth for certain, I withhold judgment on the acts and simply try to appreciate the person. Trying to do more than that, I think, is a fool's errand.
@millefleur: Come on, at least it's original material.
For those of us who don't watch TV, the innumerable television recaps (on Gawker, that is) are total misses. Can't we at least have one of these for every five or six TV posts -- doesn't that seem approximately fair?
Kari, you are so subdued in this video (appropriately so, of course). What are you like at full throttle, baby? (Or while being throttled, if that's your thing.)

I agree with you.. a cheap shot. But "immature, manipulative, and something I don't tolerate anymore" just didn't flow off my tongue as easily.
and.. I think I have a different standard for the people I call friends than you.

So we don't think that anything she said in that video is remotely honest; right?
And to be clear there is no one here who is thinking about giving her the benefit of the doubt; right?
Good. Just making sure.
