Perhaps Graydon simply recognized the sheer publicity value of having a minor player from the farcical election of 2008 sitting in those infamous back booths. GC probably called Richard Johnson himself to deliver the scoop.
Can you hire someone to do that? To hold your dick while you piss? Because I really have some important texts to send out on my iPhone, and I need to adjust my sunglasses with my other hand, and don’t want to get any piss on my FUCKING STRIPED SHIRT.
@iplaudius: Yes, dear, we are called the Legion of Pissoir, and I'll have you know the union will be in touch with you to discuss this hideous defamation right away.
Don't forget that for all his meatheadedness, Levi still holds the key to the Secret of The Baby Trig. I'm sure Graydon would want to be the one to break that--or any myriad of Crazy Palin stories--when/if it'll get him the most publicity.
@BooWahBabe: They're black, of course they have to be bodyguards!
Seriously, though, assuming that they're the two people profiled in the GQ piece on him, one is his lawyer/publicist, and the other is a private investigator who works with the lawyer, who has taken on the odd job of being both a body guard and making him more "media friendly" (which frankly means dressing him nicely and teaching him to be comfortable around gay people).
Yeah, but think of the poor Japanese snow monkey and what they've had to put up with ever since the movie Baraka came out - New-Agers draped in synthetic monkey fur climbing the peaks to meet the "great sages," ask the eternal questions, and have their dream-catchers blessed. Meanwhile, the furry little dude is just chilling out, caressing himself under the water, and watching his favorite Ad Council re-runs. It's not right.
"The Ad Council joins Subaru, Honda, Keds, PUMA, Movietickets.com, Yahoo!, SEGA, and other companies that have also pledged not to use great apes in ads. As a token of its appreciation, PETA has sent Ad Council staff members a package of primate-shaped vegan chocolates."
Gee, there's motivation for you. Vegan chocolate monkeys. Fucking. Yay.
@BitchyD: Don't know all the details of the PETA euthanizing protocol, but I will say this: there has emerged a decidedly "pro-life" zealot-base in the pet rescue organizations which scares me more than the continuation of safe, peaceful medical passings for millions of abused, unwanted and unadoptable animals.
A dog doesn't know that it's alive or dead, or what the concept of life means. They know what pain and suffering are, and if that animal cannot be guaranteed a good home then sometimes the best alternative is euthanizing it. The numbers are staggering how many animals there are to be placed each year. If you work on the "front lines" you know this.
A lot of rescue groups are now infiltrating the shelters and it's overall a very positive thing but some of these people are spending thousands of dollars to keep alive dangerous and/or sick animals because they are so horrified at the concept of death. It becomes ridiculous.
Perhaps PETA does some dubious things but euthanizing is a necessity.
@BitchyD: but sometimes those 70% go to homes that are not good. Sure, there needs to be moderation on both sides, but there are some well meaning but major wackos pulling pets out of shelters insisting on getting them adopted just so they can tout their "no kill" ego trip.
@BitchyD: I'm not saying that euthanization is wrong, just that in 2007 alone PETA put out 1,997 animals and only adopted out only 17. That's a pretty staggering difference in numbers. Something about that doesn't seem too "ethical" to me. Now out of 2,014 animals only 17 were seen as adoptable?
@BitchyD: who knows. They could have gotten the seriously sick, dangerous or unadoptable animals. I've worked in rescue for a long time and what I'm seeing right now in some cases is disturbing. Again, there are wonderful, rational people in rescue who have brought supported the overburdened shelters tremendously but when they will go to the ends of the earth to make sure their placement numbers are up because they see death as so horrible or they warehouse animals for longer than necessary, to LET THEM LIVE! I object.
PETA's methods may be wacky sometimes but I believe they care profoundly about animals.
@Banjo Kitten: I believe PETA genuinely loves animals. I think their methods are barbaric, insane, and often, inhumane. (um, that wasn't supposed to rhyme)
I also love animals and my partner has worked in one form or another with animals since her first job at 16. We support SPCA, WWF, and plenty of other ethical animal/wildlife organizations. PETA has become the extremist animal rights organization. They present misinformation or half information as fact (red meat causes Alz disease, not proven), they've given children cups of blood as they exited KFC. I have no patience or respect for PETA.
@llamalash: gotta take the good with the bad. I'd rather have a world with PETA in it, and so it seems would the great apes in this thread.
Cups of blood may be inappropriate and extreme (I would never go about activism that way)...yet, we think nothing of buying our children hamburgers and chicken legs from E-coli infested torture chambers.
If factory farming is allowed to persist the way it has, you can bet that the E-coli scares will be much more frequent and serious.
@Banjo Kitten: It's my understanding that PETA practices breed discrimination - they believe pit bulls should be wiped off the face of the earth. Is this true? So many of the dogs in shelters are pit, pit mixes, and other bully breeds...
But Prop 2 passed in CA, which PETA probably had a large hand in, and that's good, right?
@Notyourmother: yep, you need your revolutionaries, even though they may seem loony; they are the watchdogs and we need them.
There are things PETA does I'm sure that I don't agree with, but I will support them because I think they do good work.
I worked at a no-kill shelter some years ago and the pitties/sometimes pittie mixes sat for years; in pens for years. Some had been terribly abused. In my opinion some were loaded weapons. I don't know what the answer is. You need to cast a very big net to get even the smallest things done so if breed discrimination is what they believe in there must be a good reason for it. I'm not going to "tit for tat" them. I believe they are a good group, overall.
