Hugh Jackman would be awesome. Triple threat? Multiple threat. He could do a whole three hour show - then we wouldn't have to watch who gets those dumb awards and makes those boring speeches.

The more I think about this, the more excited I get. When he hosted the Tonys the first year, he dragged Sarah Jessica Parker onstage and made her swivel her hips or something when she clearly didn't want to. Maybe at the Oscars he would make Sean Penn give him a lap dance.

@EleanorRigby: WTF is the deal with bar mitzvahs and "Hands Up?" I swear, every bat mitzvah I ever went to culminated in everyone on the floor doing that dance. Maybe I don't get it because I'm Catholic?

@Clare: It's a dance that can be done with minimal lower-body movement. Very old-friendly unlike, say, the Electric Slide.

As long as gold pants are involved, I'm fine with this. Perhaps Hugh can dress AS an Oscar, jump down off his pedestal and sing "That's Entertainment!" while silver balloons coalesce over a phalanx of jolly chorus boys. In the background could be an extreme closeup of Tom Cruise laughing maniacly. Best.Oscars.ever.

If they ran a commercial that said, "We promise we won't play that 20 minute montage about how the Oscar voting is done, and how the Oscar show is made, and how important we are," I think more people would actually watch.

When will they admit that the declining audience is due to, uh, the number of awards shows, how tacky they all are, and how godawfully long they are. Make it one hour, don't show clips, don't have dance numbers,... Hmm maybe I'll just get a list together.
I don't know, they're all the same, they're all boring.
I'm getting the impression I'm not the target audience anyhoo.
