Biden was the most inscrutable choice, ever, for VP. Instead of "change" Obama brought out an old hack, who had trouble with both truth telling, even during the campaign, and with inserting his foot into his mouth. Oh, to know what kind of negotiation that was, to get him on the ticket---except, perhaps to allay terrified old white guys who feared a woman and a (half)black man on the ticket would bring on the apocalypse. #joebiden

apparently I am in the minority, but I love Joe Biden! I think he's like the lovable Steve Urkel of the White House. He comes in, says stupid stuff, knocks shit over, and is like "Did I do that?" Oh Joe. #joebiden

Joe Biden is everything thats wrong and fucked up with congress. This dope won his seat in the Senate when he was 29 and has never had another job until being VP. He has learned about as much about how the country works from his perch in DC as Palin learned about Russia from staring at it. He is walking proof we need term limits.

And he doesn't drink. I don't trust people who don't drink, unless they've already been alcoholics. #joebiden

Why is it that I feel compelled to defend Gawker's subject matter against the editors/writers at least once a day lately?

Either this new crop of staff writers is utterly fucked, or the editorial direction has taken a nosedive, or both.

Is there some negative correlation between the quality of stories and the quality of AJAX/CSS? #joebiden

I should have added before that it could well be my OS and browser causing headaches most readers don't experience. And in all fairness, I haven't been reading long enough to judge contemporary content against the past. #joebiden

Not sure what point you're trying to make, Amrita... that you think Cheney's worldview makes some sense? That Cheney was initially popular, before everything he did brought his popularity rating to a low of 28%? I love it that Biden is willing to call a moron a moron. This is a ridiculous post. #joebiden

I'm absolutely NOT a supporter of ANYTHING Dick says... but, Good Lawwd, Biden, Bin Laden will always BE a part of the issue. I'm sorry, I guess if you had the prez saying this I could understand... but, uh, Joe? Nope.

That being said, why are we posting crap from Fox News anyway - I thought we weren't supposed to take this stuff seriously?

Bars in DC actually close at 3:30...it's lame Northern Virginia across the Potomac that closes at 2. Most people drinking in DC after 2 have hopped in a cab after VA bars close. However, DC is still lame...definitely agree with that.

@SubarnaNimple: unless something has changed in the past year, and is not reflected online anywhere, they're legally obligated to stop serving booze at 2am. whether or not they keep their doors open 24/7 is kind of up to them, so technically you're right that bars themselves often stay open past the 2am last call to allow patrons to finish their final beer, but they're not supposed to be serving after that 2am bell.

The greatest thing (I thought at least) about living in DC is that no matter what time of night or how intoxicated you may be, Honest Abe is always open and available for people to stop by for a chat.

Monument drinking is one thing that DC definitely beats New York in.

@Iceland_Spar: We are a city with a LOT of public fountains, too. And a terribly ineffective police force. The latter generally makes for good drunken fun. (And, yes, crime, but let's be positive here, folks.)

@pleppy: I always liked to think of the crime as sort of an added entertainment factor. Like would my car still be outside - who knows? Its DC! Lol, though the all time highlight had to be when a car chase ended (in full police pursuit) at a tree 3 feet outside my window. Followed by a foot chase and a 12 hour search for a gun thrown into the bushes. None of these things have happened to me in boring, post-Guiliani New York!

This has less to do with DC's desire to be fun, for once, or celebrate hopey-mc-super-president or be accommodating as it is directly related to the excited greed of everyone in DC, trying to make money off of the 4 million hopey-mc-wallets expected to come into town.

I, for one, am inviting anyone with $200 and a sleeping bag to crash on my living room floor. And will maybe walk down to the inauguration to sell whiskey to cold people who've been standing on the mall for 19 hours. BUT! Most likely will not have to go to work, since the whole city is scared that we're going to be overrun by hope and the metros won't work and nobody will be able to get anywhere. (Plus, the drunkenness.)

@SuperConnie: @SuperConnie: GAH! I'm so sick of the "they" stuff... Washington, the seat of the US Federal Government, which employs douchie popped collared idiots who grow up to be well-suited douchie idiots, is NOT the same as DC, smallish (and politically disenfranchised) city of 600,000, home to go-go, half smokes, and some pretty awesome alternative black and international culture... just not cool enough for the hipsters in brooklyn, I guess. Case in point, the "they" in your sentence, in order to make it snarky, can be inferred to be the US gov't... in fact, it's DC's local government that's deciding this, but why in the world would you ever note or know that? It's outside of NY, so it's not worth looking into... Also, I would just like to mention that NY harping on DC and it's lack of restaurants, all-night metro, and drinking isn't a fair comparison...and is getting so old. The reason isn't because NY is "cooler"... if DC didn't have the federal gov't to give it cultural and political standing, you wouldn't diss on it half as much... and you might keep in perspective that NY has a land area of 468 sq miles with 8+ million people, so the density warrants MORE with 27,147/sq mi. DC is 68 sq miles and 600,000 people... making it 9,581.3/sq mi. almost a 3rd less people per area, so we have a 3rd less metro stops. Okay, rant by DCer (who actually lives in the city, doesn't work for Congress, has tattoos and piercings, reads modern fiction, and loves "indie" rock with the best of 'em) now over. I'm now going to invite people who don't diss my fair city to stay in my house for free for the inauguration.
