It raised more than a few eyebrows in the academic world when they learned that Mr. Obama had been offered a full professorship, with tenure, at the University of Chicago Law school without a single, peer-reviewed, journal article. Further, it has been reported he was the editor of the Harvard Law Review, but never published an article there either. Okay, who cares? Believe it or not, ASU. They are taking themselves very serisouly in the area of "true" academics these days or are trying to. GEEEEEEEEEEE, do you think universities should give credit to people who actually do things....or only those who can write obtuse articles. You be the judge!

It has nothing to do with Politics. Obama just lost the bet with our President Michael Crow that ASU would beat Temple in the NCAAB Playoffs. Of course, we still lost in the next round, but hey, we messed up the President's bracket and got ourselves a speaker for commencement.

In no way, shape or form am I denying that there are certainly idiots on campus, but you all realize the Comedy Central does COMEDY and they purposefully found the dumbest people on campus to interview? If the Daily Show did a special on Blog comments, they'd come to the participants of these comments.

Any school is what you make of it. ASU isn't a terrible school if the individual works hard. It's been turned into a business. Rich, dumb kids throw money at it to "earn" a communications degree, and the people who want to learn do.

And Tempe is better than Tucson, I mean, Nogales Jr.

That's weird... I don't "feel" like a twat.

I get that the Daily Show, which is on Comedy Central, likes to provide funny entertainment and news for the general audience, but gawker calling everyone who goes to ASU a twat? That's slightly disturbing, even if it's meant to be funny.

Those people interviewed could most likely be found at any university, although I do understand how ASU can be seen to have more of those types. It's a school that prefers inclusion over exclusion, and in terms of standings, there ARE a lot of worse schools.

As far as Obama not getting an "honorary degree," I'm sure he's disappointed and will lose some sleep about it. For that I'm quite sorry.

Their favorite chant at U of A games is "Go back to Mexico", (geography being as important at ASU as politics.)

ASU is a tier 1 research institution. They launched the world's first school of sustainability. We also have the origins initiative, which is a really exciting project.

@karion: It's really weird, too, because most of the students are in favor of him speaking (well over 90% of the seniors) and are engaging in a pretty intelligent, reasonable dialogue about it-- it's mostly Catholic adults outside of the university who are all up-in-arms about it. These adults apparently don't see the hypocrisy in protesting Obama but welcoming George W. Bush in 2001 as "pro-life" even when the state of Texas had executed all of those people and Catholics are against the death penalty.
