    This again? This was test marketed in the mid-80's as beer-flavored schnapps. That product had the same alcohol content as this penguin nonsense and all the taste of a wet shoe. As you can tell by the lack of marketing for beer-flavored schnapps, it never took off.

    That's going to taste like shit. In France they have several high alcohol beers (none that strong) and they end up tasting like carbonated wine.

    @drunkexpatwriter: carbonated wine? Some people pay foldin' money for that.

    I just don't see how they can crank the alcohol that high and still carbonate it.

    The homeless, some of whom have demons other than alcohol, can get much more cost-effective skullpop if that's what they're looking for. That would have only as much alcohol as a $3-5 flask of cheap vodka.

    @Smitros: I killed many a brain cell with Cisco back in the day. As in, the room was spinning one night before passing out in a friend's dorm room. Good times.

    You may be looking in all the wrong places. It's been a while since I was in DC, but unless Georgia Avenue is completely gentrified I'd start there.

    BrewDog actually produces a decent stout but something tells me that like many "extreme beers," this Penguin is a hop-bomb.

    Damn Scots with their cheaper, higher-alcohol brews. This makes Sam Adams Utopias, at 27 percent alcohol and $100 per bottle, look like shite.

    This is actually kind of amazing if you're familiar with the history of the Pabst brand. It's value was next to nothing when it was bought back in the 90s. Basically a group of investor just bought what was a more or less defunct brand for peanuts. Then they smartly paid other people to brew the product and went around snapping up other old school beer brands. All the while increasing their sales without any investment in marketing.

    Very savvy and/or lucky.
