It's like Coney Island Classic over on the Palin Bailin' comment thread, so I'll just add here to the already mentioned looming indictment and book sale theories: the backwater gov wants to position herself in contrast to all the other Repugnants caught in scandals. The polls show preference to quitting on such occasions, yet they all hung on. There's still a Vetter, a Sanford, in office, and Grinch hangs around like a bad odor, and Creepy Craig even hung on to his seat at the Minn/St Paul john till end of term. Simple Sarah will go them one better. She's a quitter! Anytime a storm brews, she's out the door, quicker'n you can say Nixon! Never fear a prolonged impeachment with The Quitter in office!

@Tremonius: The problem with the "she's taking the high road" theory is that Sarah Palin will never, ever admit she did something wrong. The closest she'll get is her deluxe version of the victim act, where she claims that partisan Democrats and the liberal media chased an innocent quiter out of office.

Which would play great with her Heartland Conservative Moron base, unfortunately. If she's still interested in running for President, her poll standings in Iowa will probably improve after this.

@Carol Gardens: We visited Coney Island in June 2000. My prior reference point was in how they go to the beach in that region, which was crowds, not even standing room only, miles and miles of humans just standing around on the alleged sand, in Life magazine. But when we went we were practically the only ones there. Also the Metro was clean and safe.

Just not living up to the rep, is all.

@nevin: It's annoying as hell to drive around, all the streets names instead if numbers. It's a beautiful place, but one of the most expensive places to live in Canada after Vancouver and Toronto. It has the best winter climate in Canada, and very nice, mild summers.

The general contractor project manager tells the guy that is going to supply all of the appliances for the new dormitory to hide an extra washer and dryer in the bid (i.e., if a washer and dryer costs $100 a pair, then the bid for 10 pairs would be $1,100). The extra pair goes to the project manager's daughter's house. Kick-backs, essentially.

@MisterHippity: I finally saw her rambling, ridiculous and somehow (always) arrogant press announcement last night. The birds cawing and the baby crying was a nice backdrop--mocking the mockable...

Of course it would be wonderful schadenfreude for her to get busted on something, although she is raising children so, shit, the big-hearted part of me hopes she didn't go there.

My wish is that Palin becomes a media star with all the bells and whistles--books, Fox News, speaking tours--all of it. I want this because I want her out of government. She has dumbed down and brought a new nadir to politics even more than I thought possible; even after Reagan and Bush II. Kill me, but Reagan and Bush did not display the victim crap that she has. This is a new low.

She wants glamor, fame, and to be a voice for conservatism. Plop her in a chair on Fox, but I don't ever want to see her run for anything and I don't want to watch her in any more debates or determining any policy for Alaska or the nation.
