@Lysergic Asset: Apparently the bar's set pretty high, because (L to R): convicted felon, wacky probable drug hound, gay, crazy definite drug hound, pervy old man.
@Martita: I would like to apologize and clarify that comment: the only people who think gays are going to hell are the nutty Christian types. Not me! If anything, that lineup should serve to show the nutty Christian types why they are wrong. Anyway, many apologies; you may ban me now.
It's way early for me here on the west coast so forgive me for being extremely amused at the idea that women are going around "not denying" they had sex with Tiger Woods. I suspect that the number of women who are not denying they had sex with Tiger Woods is almost infinitely higher than the number of women affirming the same.
No. seriously, I swear this is true. Ever since Tiger Woods' "car accident" the photos that are used to illustrate stories about them show him to be darker skinned than back when he was a golf hero. Case in point the one above. Not only does his skin tone seem darker, his face is in shadow so he is starting to get Mandingo-like qualities.
Susan Boyle does it to herself. Nobody cares about that carnival sideshow anymore. Her eventual total breakdown and institutionalization will be treated with as much surprise and interest as the eight billionth snickers bar coming out of the snickers bar factory.
@Pope John Peeps II: But I still feel for her. She's a mentally fragile woman who was able to keep herself together in the small life she led in her small town. And like so many other performers who have similar temperaments she no longer has anyone around her that cares enough about her rather than the money they can make from her to give her some perspective that would help her avoid to crash and burn that seems so inevitable.
We protect animals from having this done to them, but people are fair game whether they are capable of comprehending the consequences of seeking and then actually getting famous in the realm of satellite TV where we are all Kings commanding our fools to sing and dance for our amusement.
@Tart of Darkness: She's pretty much a fully functioning human being though, able to make informed choices. If she's not willing to stop doing something that makes her unhappy or unstable, there's really not anything anybody can do, and she really does not deserve much sympathy.
It's like dealing with an addict. They're sad and stupid and weak, but eventually you have to abandon trying to help them if they don't help themselves.
@Pope John Peeps II: Addiction, by clinical definition is not a choice. And yes addicts use up all of the people around them and are pathetic and so forth, but I feel sympathy for them.
But I'm glad you're posting all of this 'cause I've been trying to prove to 5ftoffury that there are people in the world who exist who have no sympathy for others and they cannot be educated to create it where it is lacking.
@Tart of Darkness: Well now you're just being a bit of a cock, aren't you?
Addiction, by clinical definition is a disease, but only assholes like you would say that people who choose NOT to get help deserve nothing but sympathy and coddling. Do you think you're helping them by saying "it's not your fault, you have no control"? Do you think that's how an intervention happens? People need to want help. If they don't, it fails. If they do, it succeeds.
Do you think that's helping Susan Boyle? She's handicapped, but only slightly, and none of that means she's incapable of making choices to run her own life. Or would you like everyone in the world who's slightly handicapped to have a handler, so that they can live their lives as weak and patronized, so that you can feel good about yourself that you're protecting people that you have serious unconscious contempt for. I have sympathy for people who want and need help, for people who choose help. But until they do, I feel bad for them, but I have nothing to offer them. Should I feel bad for Susan Boyle? No. She chose her own path then, and is choosing her own actions now, so she can live with the consequences. Just like every other human being.
About 15 or 16 years ago, when I was a college intern at my dad's company (yep, that's right, my dad got me my internship!) We were walking down 7th Ave. towards Penn Station and we saw Betsy walking towards us. My dad grabbed my arm and laughed, and said "oh boy get a load of this one!" The day before we had seen a crazy homeless guy prancing up the same block wearing nothing but a women's speedo, with his junk all hanging out, etc. I was like, Dad, she's not homeless, she's a designer! I LOVE HER!!
