I hear you Bill. It's funny because though I am a big fan of Obama these days...I still can't stand Caroline and Bill Richardson, either. It's not because they supported Obama v. Hillary exactly...it's that they were close family friends and they supported Hillary before that and all of a sudden they were allergic to her.
However, I do get a quite a bit of enjoyment out of the fact that Caroline's attempted grab of Hillary's seat failed so spectacularly and that Bill and his stupid beard got no cabinet position (same goes for you John Kerry!).
Meanwhile, Obama gives me Hillary as SoS and a Hispanic woman as a SCOTUS justice. Awesome.
@ellagood: Somehow I just knew you'd be in this thread with with some sort of comment related to fucking Bill Clinton. I am so proud of myself right now.
Good for Sen. Gregg, Turns out Obama is not as non-partisan as he claimed to be and it would be ridiculous for Sen. Gregg to take the Job when Obama announces a week after your appointment that he's going to cut your balls off. It's clear that Obama had designs on changing the way the Census is administered and wanted to give Dems the Senate super majority by nominating a centrist Republican to a cabinet position he planned to make toothless anyway. The Census announcement came out too soon, if Gregg had been confirmed it would have been impossible for him to resign because he would be with out a job and out of power with out a shot for the next 2 years.
Republicans are not opposing the stimulus bill because it's authored by Democrats they oppose it because it's not stimulus. The market has tanked since this thing came out no one likes this 1000 page piece of garbage because it's just a pay off to Democratic supporters just go read the damn thing or at least a summary.
And it's funny to hear liberals talk about being partisan and obstructionist, I wish there was as much of an outcry against partisanship and obstructionism when Harry Reid was saying the Iraq war was lost or Dem senators going with out permission to Syria to talk to Assad. Republicans are more than willing to work with Democrats and do want the administration to succeed because the administrations failure is Americas failure.
Before someone starts spouting off numbers about hoe 90% of some poll says we need to do something I agree we need to do something but 70% of those polled also agree that this bill is NOT stimulus and will destroy our currency. I'm probably being presumptuous seeing as how liberals don't like to use numbers if they don't make them feel good.
I think what happened is that the Republicans have decided that obstructionism and hoping the economy fails is playing well in Rushland, which, I guess, is the only America that matters to them.
@Mediahohoho: I have read so much in the past two days, but someone intelligent somewhere reported this week that their motivation in holding up the stimulus package truly was because they don't want to see things improve by 2010, because if the economy is starting to turn around again, they will be decimated. Which, you know, FUCK YOU. What self-serving, small-minded dickheads.
Did he take the job just to fucking embarrass Obama by bailing out? As Emily says, any disruption like this makes Republicans giddy. Gives them more to exploit.
How many times is Obama going to let the Republicans give him the finger? It's in their interest (or so they believe) to fuck him up and bring him down by any means necessary for 2012. How much longer will he acquiesce to this?
@Baroness: How much longer will Obama supporters freak out that he's being a wimp and then watch in stupefaction as his opponents wear themselves out and he moves in for the kill?
@Baroness: I appreciate your vigilance as well as your many other admirable qualities, Baroness -- but I'm with Moff on this one: Republicans just look silly here, cannibalizing one of their own while fumbling a chance to add some bipartisan influence to the policy process.
After this, Republicans' chanting of "bipartisanship" -- a theme that had regained them some ground with the electorate, near as I could tell -- has been exposed as hollow. So for them, the upshot of the Gregg fiasco is a time-out for pissing in the swimming pool, and a trip back to square one.
