I think Gawker got this almost exactly wrong. I think the least pathetic, and most graceful letter of all, came from the only man, apparently, who still has a producing job in television, Pat Curry of WGN.
Yes, he's sympathetic (perhaps even syncophantic), but still seems, to me, to be genuine, caring, and professional.
The Oprah crowd has been exposed to so much "look at me" empathy, that they can't distinguish it from a sincere, polite, declaration of caring.
John, you didn't get Fox News because you asked for e-mails from representatives of the media. Next time try "representatives of the media, and crazy people", and the Glenn Beck e-mails will pop right up.
All of this is ironic, in that, if the media had waited just a few more hours, Blago undoubtedly would have been hounding them to let him come in for an interview.
The lack of sycophantic correspondence from Fox News is intriguing. Usually, they "accidentally" label whichever disgraced Republican pol as "D-" to keep their reportage on-message, but then they completely dropped the ball when a bona-fide D-Scumsylvania appeared on the horizon.
Blago has been hosting his own show on WLS the past couple of weekends so I'm guessing their incredible offer involved a lot of free air time to use as he sees fit.
From someone whose job it was to send all these e-mails and make all these calls and buy all those dinners ... it sucks. But it's your job, suck it up, suck up and some how score that interview.
It's the interviewer's job to be the fair & balanced journo. A better story would be to pair the pitch with the story that resulted.
Just saying ... thanks for making me cry Gawker Meanie-a
