    @OrneryBabe: Well, to be fair, she may have just been thinking, "he's cute and guys are notoriously lousy at conversation in public anyway, so I'll just agree with his babbling until he starts making sense or I can quietly leave with some dignity, whichever comes first." Even if the guy is talking like an idiot, it still looks crummy just to stand up and walk out in the middle of a date. Which is one really good reason to insist that first dates be set for a short finite time (e.g., let's meet for a drink before I go to a dinner engagement I have already made for Friday night.) Also on a short finite date you are less likely to say stuff that will be transcribed on a cocktail napkin and forwarded to Valleywag.
