Say what you will and their have been cost cuts across the board, it's been a tight advertising market, but my impression is that the papers who have never been free haven't been complaining as loudly, as those who've subscribed to the "eyeballs" mentality.
I just hope that when the big papers settle on a system, it'll be justifiable for a non-hard product and affordable for all types of readers. But unless everybody starts clicking on ads and disabling their ad-block software, the publishers aren't going to have much choice.
