His wife should be left with nothing, too. No way she didn't know something was off the whole time. The recovered monies should go to those who need it most.

    Dude's NAME was Made Off.

Anyone who gave him money, simply did NOT undertand God's sense of humor.

Old folk left penniless are especially sad to me. Lacking the 'cuteness' of orphans, their sufferings are so often willfully overlooked. We all know we'll eventually be joining the elderly in humiliating infirmity, fragility, and vulnerability and the vision is so horrifying most of us need to click navigation, flip the page or change the channel FAST.

    Commodified? Commoditized and codified?

Can we check up on him next year and make sure he's not slicing garlic wafer thin with a razor blade?

He;s working a very George Washington-esque profile there.

He has been declared the worst sample of humanity on two feet, but he never molested little boys or caused untimely deaths. Frances Marion said, `It's so silly, all these suicides because of lost fortunes, and never because an only son is killed in the war.'

Or, as Lennon-Harrison invite us to sing with them:

You never give me your money

You only give me your funny paper

And in the middle of negotiations you break down

@Tremonius: For people who lost everything to crooks, and suffer every day because of that--well, that can be a long slow torture. Not that Madoff didn't have some willing victims, who should have known things were too good to be true; I'm just saying, sudden poverty is nothing to make light of.

@Tremonius: Frances Marion said, `It's so silly, all these suicides because of lost fortunes, and never because an only son is killed in the war.'

I spent most of my adult life in Israel, and I know more than one story of mothers who committed suicide after their sons were killed in battle. To be honest - and nitpicky - I don't know if they were only sons.

Also, 2.5 mil is quite a generous cushion for Mrs. Madoff's old age. Hard to muster up any pity for her just because it isn't the tens of millions she's used to.

@ohnothimagain: I mean to deny the glory-grabbing Sir Paul wherever I am able. Now we are supposed to call all those songs the product of "McCartney-Lennon"? Why is that? Because he is jealous, and rightfully so. In one tune by Sir Paul after the breakup I counted four thousand "woo-woo"s. I'd be trying to hog former glory too, had I been exposed when out on my own as he has been. Reminds me of one of the Supremes, who hired a ghostwriter to tout her as the creative genius behind the group.

    Altogether now:

    "Close to you -

    woo-woo-woo-woo-[infinitum]"

@clickable: Oh, I don't cry for either Eva Peron nor Mrs Madoff neither; they both received more than their just reward.

I should have stressed "fathers," because that was the grouping known for suicide on a mass scale due to loss of personal fortune. Come to think on it, I cannot remember many women who ended it all because their lot in life had shrunk. Only two,

    (spoiler alert!)

    Cleopatra and Anna Karenina.

@drinkyrose: Yes, dead soldiers, and civilians, amounting to upwards of a hundred thousand human souls lost due to the craven conniving of the Crawford Cretin, and yet the most spurned human in America in recent memory (last forty news cycles) is our record-setting Ponzi Putz. He'll draw maybe 150 years and they build a huge library for the little moron.

or, as McCartney-Manilow invite us to sing with them:

    One cost us many lives

    The other all our money

    You aren't sposeta always laugh

    Just because it's funny.
