It sounds like the only wood that made contact with his face might be a Nike 3 wood............not the birch in his driveway........or the mahogany from the steering wheel.
I have a theory: He was going to all the all-night market to get diapers and looked away for a second to consult the GPS. The hydrant (followed closely by the tree) jumped in front of his SUV causing the low speed accident. They returned to their "daytime" places before the ambulance arrived. Just a theory.
The mayor of Windemere (why is he giving a statement, by the way?) told CNN that Woods was "treated and released" from the hospital, and that he suffered facial lacerations, but that the injuries were not serious.
Also, Woods' agent released a statement that said, "[Woods] is fine."
@Matt Cherette: Thank God. Now the jokes can begin in earnest............guilt free. I just hope it wasn't the premature deployment of Rachel Uchitel's airbags that caused the Cadillac to exit.......stage left.
@Matt Cherette: The vehicle needs to be going a certain speed (25mph, 30 mph?)before the air bags would deploy. Given that he was exiting the driveway of his mansion -- err, humble abode -- making a turn onto the main rode, his speed is likely under the deployment speed.
As is de-rigueur when they don't have concrete facts but must report something........anything, both CNN and Fox are showing an overhead shot of his home and the supposedly offending tree that got in the way of his Escalade. Unfortunately, there is similar looking tree about 10 feet away that looks exactly the same. Oooh, I get to speculate....
@If_I_Had_a_Poodle: Exactly! Guns don't kill people, bulletts do. Unless of course you're in one of those old monster movies where the monster chases the gun-toting hero who is firing as he runs away, only to be cornered as his gun runs out of ammunition. And what does our hero do, class? Right, he throws said gun at the monster, braining it squarely, felling him in an instant.
Hey, a little cinematic revisionist history is called for every now and again, yes? #shooting
Why do the crazies, the postals and the stressed never engage in mad pillow-fighting or water pistol warfare? Always so serious with the permanent angry.
It really is sad the number of people in this country who seem to die only because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong person. These are not our finest hours, America. #shooting

For some reason, I read that as a description of what had caused the car accident, as in a domestic dispute.

I wonder how much, exactly, he'd be willing to pay for us to drive him over the ridiculously porous border.

Notice, I didn't say what we'd do with him once we got paid and got him across the border.
