I didn't notice that the logo had changed, but I did notice the font. Take notice, Pepsi: font geeks like the new design.

I'm still going to go buy a cherry coke however.

This is exactly why I got out of the business. I couldn't shovel this crap with a straight face. I couldn't do 3,257 itterations of the same frickin logo and come up with a deep and soulful meaning behind each one. Sometimes a squiggly-do is just a squiggly-do people! So I left the branding/design field behind and went to law school, where I shovel crap all day with a straight face. Gun please!

This beats my master's thesis that attempted to extrapolate the entire archeology of human knowledge from one randomly selected "Designing Women" episode.

Maybe these same people can give me a reason why shit like this exists:

@i'm a bottle: It's amazing, isn't it? If I were to make a comment about how "boring women were in the sack", or about "lackluster blowjobs" I'd get a chorus of women so angry they'd actually direct air from their lungs spontaneously through their vaginas to scream at me in the most feminist way possible. But somehow it's fine for Jezebel to do the same in reverse. How astonishing.

@Pope John Peeps II: I take no issue with feminism at all. I'm all for gender equality, equal pay, more roles for males in the household and in childcare, etc., but the article in no way consists in any mode of feminism, female empowerment or non-gendered thinking that I'm familiar with. Instead, what we are dealing with quite the opposite. It's the old, "Men are active, women are passive" thinking that I thought we abandoned in the sixties.

Or did I miss something? Are the two sexes not supposed to do the communication thing after all? Is there supposed to be mutual hostility and distrust between sexual partners?

This is interesting because it seems to me as if the Arnell Group did some post-Greatest Depression post-hoc rationalizing of their work. Some of the Ad Age articles the firm has on their website speak of the smiley optimism of the logo. That's touched on in the memo, but mainly what you see there is specious logo history analysis and some "Great Ideas of the Western World" sophistry.

I am SO going into brand consulting. Didn't the brand consultants on the Deloitte consulting spin off get paid something like $10 million to come up with "Tuesday" (which ws fortunetly never used - "Hm, this is a tough one, who should we call for help? Oh - we should call Tuesday, they're good.")

Were you thinking of Arthur Anderson and Accenture? Accenture is a stupid name (it is a derivative of 'accent on the future') but they dodged a bullet by shedding the Arthur Anderson tag...

@friend_of_a_friend: It could have been Arthur Anderson, but didn't Deloitte think of spinning off the consulting arm and get fairly far along in the process? (This story would be much better if I actually had a long term memory)

@Iceland Spar: Actually, it was "Monday" It launched for about a week, and then IBM purchased the company and they all became IBM Consulting Services. I worked at the brand consultancy that did all the strategy work at the time. We were paid approx 2-3 million dollars for our thinking. And then they hired a separate creative shop to actually do the naming and identity work out of London. They probably made an additional 2-3 million. Remember, folks, it is not about the outcome, it is about managing the corporate decision-making process, which can be time-consuming!
