This is completely retarded... Why go fishing like this? I've worked with Nina before and like any good editor she speaks her mind when she's got an opinion or an idea, but that doesn't make her a terror--that makes her good at her job. We're friends now and I can tell you she's a really empathic and good person so, you know, step OFF.

Nina is good at what she does, which means she is demanding and sets the bar high. That is a good thing for the magazine and should be a good thing for her staff. She also happens to be a loyal friend and wonderful mom. Way to go Gawker.

@Astigmatism: Well that didn't make any sense without the accompanying text. Should have read:

This is Nick Denton, currently the Arianna Huffington of Gawker. Do you know anything about him? One story: he allegedly keeps the icons of commenters that have been executed and editors that have "resigned" on his desk.

Or maybe this is just in my Gawker dream.

In high school she found acceptance in the (who'd have guessed) drama club, even though it was only in the tangential role of prop mistress, but without her the show could not have gone on, she was always quick to add. She found that the only way to avoid awkward pauses in the action was to ride herd on the black pantsed and t-shirted crew, even if they pretended to hate her for it. Her unrequited crush on the leading man (same boy, every production) left her feeling sad and bitter, long after it became apparent to everyone he was gayer than gay. Is it any surprise if she turned out to be a bit of a terror? -- wouldn't you have?

Nina is a close friend of mine--our families will be seder-ing together in a few days. So for what it's worth, Hamilton, you do indeed have her all wrong. I've never worked with her, but I can attest to her being a good egg. Ambitious, yes. Young, yes. Go-getter, yes. Terror, no.

If her website design is any indication, she's clearly a sadist of the worst kind. I feel like I just time traveled back to 2001 only to find myself in the throes of an epileptic seizure as Vanessa Carlton played in the background.

Per the guy from Southern Breeze:

Crappy editors-in-chief with few skills other than talking up their "vision" have always depended on lesser-paid, no-respect underlings to get the actual work done.

But as with banks, real estate and a hundred under industries, it's only when the economy comes to a screeching halt and financial cushions disappear that the usual way of doing business is suddenly revealed as ridiculous.
