Bulls Win Bullfighting Festival, Remaining Events Canceled

Three matadors were gored in succession on Wednesday at a major event of Spain's bullfighting season. Fearing more bovine revenge, organizers canceled the remaining fights.

Flying Bull Briefly Escapes Ring, Crushes Picador
A half-ton bull flew into the crowd at the Plaza de Toros bullfighting ring in Mexico City on Sunday, leaping over the barrier and landing on top of a picador. The bull returned to the ring and was promptly killed.

Bullfighting Banned In Catalonia
Today lawmakers in the Catalonia region of Spain voted to ban bullfighting — to take effect in January 2012 — on grounds of animal cruelty. The vote comes shortly after large protests in Barcelona for greater Catalan autonomy.
