    @screwy: my favorite part of this whole snake-eating-its-tail is the commenters around here who spend an...interesting amount of time making rather racist blanket statements about the sanity of all arabs etc are some of the ones who are being super offended by this! racism: it's completely irrational, and probably a sign of terrorism.

    the ideas you promote are, as usual, worthy, Pareene, but why do y'all automatically assume that this video has in fact been released by the amorphous hobgoblin (to borrow from Mencken) "Al Qaeda"? because somebody (the media) told you so? ever occur to you that there are many people who might have an agenda, like a manipulative one, in "releasing" these tapes at provocative moments? sorry, but it strikes me as terribly naive. I don't understand the insistence on accepting spoonfed information without questioning it. do you need to preserve these myths for yourselves for some reason? why? I'm not saying I'm certain this did not come from "Al Qaeda," I'm just reiterating that old chestnut: Question Authority.

    Al-Qaeda is a fucking joke. These guys couldn't bomb at a comedy club. Yes, we should kill every one that we can find, but the thing that really irritates them is laughing at them. They want so much to be a serious and threatening force in world politics, but they're just a bunch of idiots playing soldier in the sand. Want to really get under their skins? Obama should mock them mercilessly.


    This is something Bush was far too dumb to understand. He built them up into something scary, which legitimized them in certain parts of the world and helped them recruit more fanatics. The answer is to turn them into a laughingstock, to mock them unceasingly, which will delegitimize them, decrease their ability to recruit new blood, and hopefully make them antsy enough to come out of their caves for some attention. At which point, hello Hellfire missile in the face!


    Jesus, I sound like a Republican. But seriously, it's time to change the way we deal with these jackasses. Ignoring them is good, but mocking them is way better.
