"Obama sent letters to the House and Senate saying that he was firing Walpin, effective 30 days from the date of the letters, in which he provided this explanation as motivation for the firing:"

@Woeful: Yeah, that was a weird series of sentences. Also, TPM has been all over this, noting quite a few irregularities in Walpin's investigation of St. Hope. Kind of weird to see an extended block quote from Byron York (the same guy who suggested that Obama may not actually be that popular because black people like him) and no counterpoint from people who actually do research.
@Woeful: The reason is what the letter said: ""It is vital that I have the fullest confidence in the appointees serving as Inspectors General. That is no longer the case with regard to this Inspector General." The spirit of the law seems to be for a disclosure of the reason. If there is a reason for President Obama's loss of confidence it should be written into those letters. He is not the king. "It pleases me" is not a sufficient explanation.
@that charlie sedarka: Oh really...I haven't seen anything over there on this, probably because each time I go there I'm focused on Iran stories. I'll check it out.
@ChillbearLatrigue: Perhaps giving the reason would interfere with an ongoing investigation. Obama gets the benefit of the doubt on this one. He sent the letter, gave the 30 days, if all you're waiting for is a solid reason, then just calm down and ask the question instead of getting the pitchforks and torches ready.
Dream on Cajun Boy. The money was reimbursed, the locals failed to file charges and Walpin is an old white dude who acted like a dick while prosecuting (black) Kevin Johnson. Dude, the president is black. He's not going to let some older GOP guy dis a big supporter who also happens to be black. It's the same way that Dubya protected all of his Halliburton types even though it was clear they were ripping us all off big time. The GOP smells blood in the water because they are casting around for a direction and are desperate and thus deluded.
