I agree that the original UK version of his shows are superior in production but his smugness nonetheless seeps through. My gf and I like to joke how every description of a good dish on Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmare involves different permutation of the words, "local," "fresh," "honest," "unpretentious," "simple."
@Paul.B.Dodd: Yes, as soon as I upgraded my cable and let myself watch one of his shows, I was taken aback by how much less scary he was on the UK versions and how almost likeable he was. He does revise every menu into the same thing and my god does he love to take his shirt off!!! Every chance he gets, shirt off.
He lost some of my charitable enthusiasm for him when I learned about his long running affair with another woman. Not that chefs being scuzzy is surprising, I just felt extra bad that he has his lovely wife and scrumptious kids on the show so much. It just seems extra vulgar to be that hypocritical...
The BBC/Channel 4 originals of Ramsay's shows are WAY better than the US versions -- The F Word especially is so much more interesting than anything you find on US TV, hands-down. Trump is a fraud -- always has been, always will.
@meechybee: I hate the U.S. versions of Ramsey's shows, but I really enjoy The F Word. It's got a little bit of everything -- Ramsey cooks, teaches ordinary people how to revamp dinner party menus, talks to celebs, and then slaughters lambs and turkeys and makes animal-poop paper with his adorable children. That is my kinda show.
