    I'm viewing this in light of the recent redesign at Gawker. What they need is a system that highlights the comments containing racial slurs so they can be brought to the front. All those Mormons really want to see is commentary employing the maximum number of gay slurs. But hmmm, racism appeals too - what stacks first?

    @resipsaloquacious: Some people use quotes incorrectly for emphasis - surely you've been at a lunch counter with a sign that says: No "50 dollar bills"!. Which always makes me think, "Well, of course not!"

    @sakade: There's a pretentious restaurant in my town that throws quotes in descriptions of almost every menu item, such as:


    Chicken, "braised" and caramelized atop a "bed" of pilaf. etc.


    When ordering, I like to use "finger quotes" so I can ensure I'm ordering the right "item"
