Truthers claim the U.S. government was complicit in the largest act of terror on American soil. Birthers think Obama was born overseas. Now, in a fair and sane world, there would be no natural-born requirement for our Presidents. Objectively, truthers are A LOT worse, for thinking the government complicit in mass terror and for assuming the government's competent enough to get away with it.

@oneinsixbillion: Perhaps the government has a hand in this in that the Bush administration resisted the 9-11 commission and then stonewalled it when it finally gave in. Just a thought.

What's wryly amusing is that their crazies are half again crazier than we are, over "our" issue.
Then they go over to "their" issue and prove themselves Whoa Unholy Momma Bat-Sh*t Insane.

Although, I have to say, if "allowed" includes "willfully closing one's eyes to actionable, credible and critical intelligence so one could saw logs on one's Texas estate while barely avoiding being assassinated by a pretzel", then count me in for the "allowed" category.

@Trai_Dep: I don't know, I'm pretty sure the truthers are about as crazy as crazy gets.

Conservatives may be living in a constant state of abject, debilitating fear over 9/11 that drives every single foreign policy decision any of them make, but at least fear is understandable on some level given the event itself. Wild conspiracy theories are a whole different thing.

Also, let's not forget that the truther conspiracy movement started with the claim that the airplanes involved were actually US military tankers, supposedly identified by the "pods" on their underbellies. This, of course, ignored the fact that there were actually victims on those (commercial) planes. Once that was pointed out, repeatedly, there was an almost audible "oops" and the truthers pretty much dropped that claim. It's pretty much the only time they've been convinced of the truth of anything about 9/11. It's almost like they feel like they gave us all a mulligan, and now whenever we point out anything that's wrong with their crackpot theory, we're just being belligerent and mean.

Yeah, it's not like George Bush got personally handed a memo that said "Bin Laden determined to attack inside United States" and did nothing. And then used an attack by Al Qaeda to then invade a sovereign country that had nothing to do with said attack.

Where do these crazy pants people get such wacky ideas? I mean he didn't intentionally let New Orleans drown either... but I can see where people get that perfect blend of incompetence mixed with ruthless opportunism confused with actual intent.

On a hunch, I just did a quick Google search, and a poll in 2004 found that, at that time, roughly the same number of Republicans (62%) believed Saddam Hussein was personally involved in planning the 9/11 attacks.

@White Man's Bourbon: And according to Frank Gaffney, a Republican operative who actually gets air time on MSNBC and other outlets, Saddam Hussein was also responsible for the Oklahoma City bombings. Which is every bit as likely as the 9-11 lie Cheney repeatedly told.
