@CaptainFantastic: I think he was more referring to the massive coronary/annyeurism I would suffer if you threw me in a small glass box a quarter of a mile in the air.
Neato! You should do more Chris Van Allsburg-related stories, Richard. I would read all of them, even the ones about the movie version of "Zathura." "The Mysteries of Harris Burdick" was one of my favorite books growing up.
@naugahydeinplainsight: Imagine walking halfway out onto that thing, like to the center of the "U", then realizing that heights are not for you. What then? Running is probably out of the question, right?
@OrneryBabe: I walked all the way around that thing in April. A smartass Scouser friend was with me and started jumping up and down on far end of the "U". People out there with him started flipping out and running (which was hilarious because you have to wear felt-like booties over your shoes, so it was more like slipping and sliding away). I thought one woman's husband was going to pummel him. He probably (usually) had it coming. I know my balls jumped a little even though the thing never moved. It's 4 or 5 sheets of half inch thick glass. The brackets are drilled 15 feet into the rock. You could probably ride an elephant or two around it, truth be told- provided it didn't freak and buck you over the edge. What a way to go, though, huh?
