Just finished and saw the preview for next week. So basically, we have a kid who whores himself out=Lauren on Melrose; a chick whose life gets ruined by a picture message=Annie on 90210; a nice, innocent boy who will obviously get sucked into a not-so-innocent world=Jonah on Melrose; and a brunette sidekick who can't act=Vanessa on Gossip Girl. Go CW!
Watching it now, and definitely enjoyng it more than I expected. Sara Paxton, who I've only ever seen as Rachel Witchburn in Sydney White, is considerably more likeable than I'd imagined she would be, and Mischa Barton seems like a minor character who's basically playing herself without realizing it. Plus, Raina's bro is played by Casey from As The World Turns, which is especially weird because the last guy to play Casey is on Vampire Diaries. Strange.
I felt tingly-warm all over last night for two reasons :
1. Because Tyra taught me how to SMIZE (smile with my eyes);
2. The first 30 minutes of Beautiful Life unfolded like a male version of Valley of the Dolls, with the farm boy as Anne Welles.
Didn't watch this. Was wincing at Ronnie Devoe's part in the Poison knock-off during Glee: Show about songs they will butcher, but cutely.
Nawr, don't recap it. BECAUSE BRIAN THERE'S SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE TO RECAP. Just do it, dude.
(And Vampire Diaries. I didn't hate it last week. Will tune in tonight to see if it still satisfies my no Twilight, ever/less weird than True Blood fix.)
@Spirit Fingers: I didn't hate Vampire Diaries either, but I didn't love it.
As for SYTYCD, it is one of my absolute favorites, but i HATE the audition process, so I'm currently ignoring it. Though I'm glad Nigel finally gayed it up a little bit last night.
@Brian Moylan: Yeah. I'm trying to give Vamp Die (Heh. It'll catch on like Fetch, no really, it will.) a chance, but while the Stefan kid is sexy, he's no broody, Boreanaz. (Oh, how I loved Angel, damn.) But...but he has the right feel, so far. The long lost, rogue vamp brother business just may be over-cheese, but maybe not. The actual scenes with the diary...blow. Not good since that's the whole theme and stuff.
Yes, yes, I'll allow you to ignore the audition stuff for SYTYCD, but once the meat-n-potatoes start there friend, I'd like to see some heavy critique of the fall batch, and vivid imagery of how we'd all like to suffocate Mary Murphy with one of her damnable trains.
So I know this is the CW and there must be some suspension of disbelief, but there were so many unrealistic things about this show. These people do not look like models, no way "Raina" is 16, model apartments are not massive brownstones where almost everyone has their own room, and these people would be doing way more drugs than was shown. Otherwise, it's great and I'll keep watching.
Wow, I am once again so alone here. I could barely get through the episode, it was so relentlessly DUMB. Iowa farm boy? Really? We're buying that? And did anyone notice how SHORT all the supposed models were? Don't even get me started on the "acting". And did anything actually, you know, HAPPEN? All the good, trashy fun on TV is officially in the reality genre. Give me RHoWhere-ever-the-fuck over this tripe any day.
@DorothyBarker: I think the Iowa farmboy thing is supposed to be some sort of parallel to Ashton Kutcher. That almost seemed like the most realistic part of an unrealistic show to me.
@princess_peach:
I didn't watch it, but when I read "Iowa Farm Boy" knowing it's from Ashton Kutcher, I thought about how he apparently put himself into this show and how his most recent film, which he also produced had him as a gigolo servicing an older woman.
I guess if you spend so much time on twitter, justin.tv and other social networking sites, things just naturally become somewhat autobiographical.
@BlackLadyBug: Word. It was very distracting, though, having her called Claudia because it totally made me think of Schiffer!
Also, there is a fellow model of Mischa's character named Marissa which made me think they were talking about Mischa's character every time she was mentioned (because of the OC). You'd think they would have thought about this when picking character names....
@Roots500: It distracted me too. It made me wonder what they were trying to do/say instead of concentrating on the show.
I didn't concentrate too hard, so I kinda liked it, and will give it another shot next week. It kept me on the elliptical for an hour, so it can't be all bad.

My take-away from what I saw: Ashton wanted to say that he didn't do any 'gay stuff' when he was modeling.
