Does this mean she wrote that article - while she was pregnant?

@FormerEnglishMajor: The article was published November 30. She's due in April, so pg in July - she was well out of her first trimester when she wrote this article about the surrogacy, her troubles conceiving, etc.

If I did not hate her attitude before, her mewling 11/30/08 "please feel sorry for me because I could not conceive" - WHILE SHE WAS PREGNANT - means that the byline meant more than the truth.

My gut: she wrote that article, and didn't say she was pregnant (even though, again - she was at least 4 months pregnant) because she could get 2 stories out of it. Or she was afraid of the torches and pitchforks.

Crap - I hope so much her husband meets someone younger/prettier/male and dumps her so she can QUIT THE SMUG.

Who says she can't have another miscarriage? I'm not hoping for one, but I'm just throwing it out there...

@LaLuneEstMorte: I had my son last April, so I assume she'd be in the last trimester. A miscarriage would be rather unlikely by this point: actually, I believe they would refer to it as a stillborn.

I do hope nothing goes wrong here--I've seen what the loss of a miracle baby does to people. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

This happens to a lot of people. You finally give up on the freak-out stage, your body relaxes and things happen.

This has happened to so many women I know who swore over and over they could never conceive, did their in vitro, adopted, whatever, stopped obsessing over it eventually and got naturally knocked up. I'm not saying anything. I'm just saying.

@rubyruby: The stress of trying to get pregnant seems to interfere with the creation of the one thing you want most to happen. Not for everyone of course, but yeah I know a few people who tried for years and finally gave up and decided on getting a kitten. Next thing you know, they're knocked up. The downside is that often the marriage has taken a toll and they're doing back to back lamaze and marriage counseling.

@rubyruby: I seriously hope you guys don't run around telling your infertile friends to "relax." It's one of the most obnoxious things an infertile hears on a regular basis.

After all, they were probably relaxed in the beginning of trying, doncha' think? Infertility is not having a viable pregnancy after a year of trying. (Or physical issues that make the matter more readily apparent earlier, as in my case.)

I'm not saying that stress might not make things worse, but it's not like their brains are what's keeping them from conceiving.

there are a lot of whispers in social circles that her husband swings both ways (less her way than the other way)

which leads me to wonder who really is the father of this baby

I have no problem with a woman who can't conceive employing a surrogate to help her out -- but I DO have a problem with a minority woman standing at attention in this pic. WTF is this, a nuvo liberal elitist plantation?

@ZoeBlack: Gack! This makes me think of all the idiots who, upon hearing my husband and I can't conceive, suggest we adopt, because "as soon as you give up trying you'll get pregnant on your own! I know somebody who..." Um, no, we have a 0% chance.

(Not calling you an idiot, btw.)
