Wait, how's Goldman so smug? They made shitloads of money and are paying out the people who made it - regardless of how much or little work they did, effectively - as such. They have to report bonuses, otherwise, they probably wouldn't tout this stuff. I wouldn't go so far to say "smug" as I would simply "paid as fuck." For their top earners to not be paid in proportion with what they help bring in and to keep that money at the very top...would be smug. I'd bring pageview bonuses into this, but unless I'm throwing some dark-SEO magic worthy terms in here (i.e. NAKED SUSAN BOYLE PICZ), it doesn't really work.

What happened to the New "New Economy" that didn't involve dicey bullshit that eventually implodes, losing money for everyone except practioners of said dicey bullshit?

Banking needs to return to being a pleasantly dull profession for people who want to make a living, not a killing.

@City_Dater: that will take some serious time. the banking industry can't just be changed over night, especially not in the middle of a "recovery" period. it would be too much to handle at once in terms of uncertainty. bankers are usually pretty dull and the work is boring but that doesn't excuse the points they take on EVERY transaction, even the ones that fail.

Ah the infamous computer program that takes the fraction of cents left over from financial transactions and interest compounding and transfers them to a dummy account... and was developed by Richard Pryor in Superman III... and later copied by the gang in Office Space.

I don't understand how they're "your billions." The AIG point is a valid one, though the state of play there is a little more complex than summarized. Other than that you've got little more than innuendo to go on. That's sort of the definition of conspiracy theorizing. If there's dirt, find it and smear it - everyone else will thank you. Just keep in mind that plenty of people have tried and found nothing.
