I first saw this ad last Friday at the movie theater across from Lincoln Center.

There were audible gasps and much chattering after it ran.

Also, I hate having to watch commercials at the movies.

Every time those bells ring, a Wal-Mart employee gets his wings. R.I.P.

Meanwhile, he was a temp./ So he probably wasn't even paid for those hours leading up to his death since he didn't even get to hand in the time.

There's really so many layers of what have you in all of this. Just take a quick shot, turn over a little hour glass and scribble them down on a piece of paper...

So one measly human life was lost. Think of the bargains for consumers! And all the money the Walton billionaires give to charity! That makes it all better, right? Right?

When I heard that the Walmart STOMPEDE happened in Long Island I wasn't surprised.

With more "lanes" open they're just highlighting the convenience of a more "orderly" stampede. This will also facilitate emergency response by pin-pointing exact location of fallen bodies.

I'm sure the makers of Twizzlers, AirHeads, Skittles and Starburst are equally happy with the guilt by association.

I saw this ad this weekend and actually cringed. I don't know if it's insensitive or careless or stupid or what, but I do think it should have been pulled.

I was so into Christmas, until I heard the Wal Mart stampede. Seriously people, WTF?

Nobody who was at that store deserves to have a Christmas this year. Go spend it with the dead guy's family. Unbelievable.

@Banjo Kitten: Good point. The soulless-fluorescent-grayness of the whole spot doesn't scream "holiday" to me.

@Cheap Shot: but this misses the point and blames the victim. We're all that crowd. If you know you're going to have a run on some gizmo then make sure your customer isn't treated like so much chattle. We can be judgmental about consumerism, but you ever had an 11 year old boy who will die without a certain something and you're bringing home a crappy paycheck and slogging through each endless day and you want to make someone in your tired little family happy so you trundle over to Wal-Mart to buy something to ease the pain a bit?

I make choices every day and they aren't always easy ones and I have to work hard at it. Not everyone understands this, and I don't begrudge those people.

The onus is on the corporate "responsible" citizen who rakes in billions a year. It's their fault.
