I'm sorry, but being a formerly relevant popstar does not excuse you from being a hateful, anti-semitic child abuser. It just doesn't. Anybody who wants to commemorate this guy's life is probably also happy Gitmo isn't closing, because it's really great when people suffer endlessly, isn't it?

Remember the big Elvis stamp photo debate? A dollar says we'll be having the same discussion eventually wherein we attempt to decide, as a nation, whether we want to remember MJ on a postage stamp with his younger, more healthy-looking countenance, or the skeletor, last days-looking MJ. I see Time magazine has selected a MJ photo from his transitional phase. Good choice.

With all this coverage, I remembered how annoyed I used to be whenever Michael spoke in front of a crowd. Invariably someone would shout out "I love you, Michael!" and he would always stop and respond "I love you, too." It used to bug me a lot. Now, it actually seems poignant...those may have been the only people who were telling him they love him, besides maybe his mom. And maybe he didn't want to ignore it for the sake of the person who said it. He didn't want to ignore their love and was sure to acknowledge it and return it how he could.

I can't dismiss the weirdness or the allegations of child molestation, but he was an interesting person. I have always remembered him at his peak, aka the Thiller era, and he sort of ceased to exist and transmorgrified into something else.

@downlow: With hindsight being 20/20 the weirdest part of the child molestation allegations is how much it was a clearly a bunch of parents using their children to create lawsuits to get them money and not much else. The fact that nobody has come out since the initial suits and even after his death saying this is proof enough. Not to mention the fact that if my kids were truly molested, I would never settle a lawsuit... I'd send the creep to jail.

Michael Jackson was weird and had a damaged life, but I don't think he ever hurt anyone.

Apparently, I'm the only heterosexual white male in the entirety of America who once dug this cat's music. Obviously, the emphasis on the Michael Jackson story The Talent and the Tragedy is upon tragedy, but I'll always remember Michael Jackson made even white guys feel that they could dance, or at least should be dancing.

On the second thought, that's likely yet another thing some folks hold against him.
