    A good number laid-off today were not permalancers, but regular salaried employees who put in their time and were just thrown under the bus today!

    My sympathies to you all. I'm not in the media industry, but I've been basically ready to get canned for the past three months, and many of my friends working in finance and media here in NYC have already take the hit. Tough days ahead...

    @shewar: It certainly surprised the non-permalancers I know who were, like everyone else there, just hoping to stay in work. Less of the dismissive uninformed comments, please, given there's a few score of good folks suddenly out of work.

    @MerrickTuditanus: Certainly didn't mean to be dismissive. But Gawker's been covering the layoffs in progress for a week now.


    @shewar: I can't give you a source, as no HR person would want to be quoted. But my manager at Conde (3 years ago) said the reliance on permalancers was "substantial."
