Of course. And I'll bet you any amount of money in the world that house ob/gyn Inhofe has preformed any number of procedures for his philandering friends. After all, this is a cult that believes its leaders are exempt from the dogma they lay down for others. And this is exactly why I know that Glenn Beck is full of shit: if he gave two shits about this country, this is the first place he'd look for shenanigans. It's an open sore of corruption. #cstreet
@Go Like Hell Machine: Thanks. I have a hard time keeping my Oklahoma testicles in their proper compartments in the ball sack that is the Republican Party. #cstreet
@Mediahohoho: Indeed. I grew up in Oklahoma; Inhofe in particular has been a fuckwit shitbag for as long as I can remember. Same goes for Creepy fucking Coburn. Oklahoma has a pretty decent Governor and a whole lot of stupid ass gas bags for legislators at both the local and national level. #cstreet
@fuckingoldman: You know me. I make very little distinction between Republicans and Democrats from red states who vote with the minority party on every issue. #cstreet
of course he added that amendment. The only reason this piece of scum lives is most likely because his mother didn't have the cash to abort him.
Can I say things like that?
I guess I already did.
I'm just so sick of rich white guys telling the po ladies what they can and cannot do with their own bodies.
Somebody PLEASE dig up the mistress who he paid to have an abortion! #cstreet
@manchops: You just know there's pics of him with his dominatrix.
Also, shouldn't the fact that a woman can't afford $300 to pay for an abortion also mean she can't afford to pay for prenatal care or the cost of raising a child for 18 years? But I guess that's her tough luck.
@manchops: I think you're missing the point--he has no problem with women getting abortions as long as they they are funded by individual congressmen, and not directly by the federal government. #cstreet
Wow. We need more info on this loser, including some nice photos, so I can take them to the hoo-doo people to send a fetch after his sorry ass. #cstreet
@LeftCoastLady: Thanks and OMG! Central Casting couldn't have done it better. The porcine features. The high helmet hair. The suspicious, squinty eyed smile.
OK, I'm off to the hoo-doo people. #cstreet
@LeftCoastLady: Thank you so much for the photo. No one hates the ladies more than the fat old ugly white guy with a "winning, compassionate personality" who will never ever again get laid #cstreet
I think Matt Fong in 1998 was a half legit challenge to Boxer. She ended up winning by something like 10 points, but I remember some Boxer supporters being at least a little nervous in the weeks before the election. Bill Jones, on the other hand.... #2010
The big problem for both parties is balkanization. There aren't very many reliable voting blocks any more, and candidates on both sides have shown they're willing to do almost anything necessary to get those blocks "locked up."
That being said, I think the increasing prevalence of "purity tests" among the Republicans and the lack of a coherent party message will ensure that they continue to marginalize themselves. Bill Buckley's characterization of conservatism as a force standing astride history shouting "stop" is frighteningly correct, and right now it feels like the whole Republican party is just yelling "STOP." That's not a party slogan, but the reds are working hard to make it one. #2010
"But, theoretically, in a representative democracy, Kent Conrad's constituency shouldn't have immensely more power than Nancy Pelosi's constituency, right?"
Well, they don't - in the house. That's why the house exists.
The senate exists to protect the autonomy of the states. There is a perfectly valid argument that asks "why should my state have to submit to your state's will just because we happen to have fewer people?" That's kind of why we fought a revolution to begin with - inequality in various laws governing territories of the kingdom, with the larger and more established territories dictating everything to the smaller and newer territories. If the bigger states have all the power over the smaller states, then they will abuse that power. This is especially true in a country like ours, where the smaller states population-wise happen to have the vast majority of our natural resources. (On the other hand, they also have most of our weapons.) #congress
@shostakobitch: Hate to quote Will Saletan, but, well, you get what you ask for. If you want the government to pay for (previously private) healthcare it's gonna come with strings attached. And, unfortunately, most Americans don't want their tax money paying for abortions. It sucks, but that's what people on Medicare have been dealing with for years. Nothing comes without a price. #congress
@shostakobitch: I am staunchly pro-choice, but the liberal kneejerk reaction the abortion amendment is getting on my last nerve.
It only bans federal funding for elective abortions. I personally don't have a problem with that ban. Abortion is a choice, and with that choice comes personal responsibility, and the financial responsibility for that decision, in a majority of cases, shouldn't fall on the federal government.
But I'm a dude, so I should probably just shut the hell up. #congress
@JohnDoe: Most Americans don't want their tax money paying for troops to shoot the shit out of Arabs on an increasingly inflated cost either, but here we are. That is a weak argument for effectively making abortions a luxury of America's version of the aristocratic class. #congress
@allyzay: I wasn't arguing for it. I'm against it. But don't forget - Medicare has been subject to this for years via the Hyde Amendment and no one's been out there arguing to kill Medicare over it. Abortion is already something poor people can't get.
The point I was making, maybe not clearly enough, was that this is what happens when our illustrious Congress gets involved in our health care. But that's how our system is built, for better or for worse. #congress
@contradicto: We already have an amendment that bans federal funds for abortion, it's called the Hyde amendment. The amendment passed this weekend does one further- it prohibits coverage in the public option. Also, women with private insurance will have to purchase a separate rider in order for abortion coverage, should insurance companies even choose to provide such a rider. All in all, for middle and low income women, access to abortion will be more restricted than it is now. Severely restricted. It's not about how you want your tax money to be used. It's about denying women an equal share in health care.
Maybe abortion is just a personal choice (I actually think it's a necessary part of real medical care, but whatever). Really, when 70,000 women across the world die each year because they don't have access to safe and legal abortions, don't we have some responsibility to ensure that we don't add to that number?
Met fans are Met fans. Yankee fans are Yankee fans. My father watched the Yankees when there was absolutely no other baseball on television. Although we lived within spitting distance of the stadium (and I use "spitting" because I'm sure that's what he did when he walked by it), the family never went to a game. We traveled to Queens to see the Mets, by subway I might add.
He hated the Yankees. I mean, HATED the Yankees. All because the team dragged their feet on integration. They were the second to last MLB team to integrate, just before the much hated Boston Red Sox.
Now, if only these politicians stick to important convictions when they are elected, the world would be a better place. #congress
@afterabe: There's a difference between being a fan of a team and being a dick about another team's good fortune. He wasn't being asked to give BJs to the entirety of the Yankees, they just asked him to sign a "Congratulations" letter, basically. It's just kind of a sad move. I mean, do you think every president wants and likes the players of every winning sports team? I mean, my god, can you imagine trying to have a conversation with Ben Roethlisberger? No, of course not, because that would be horrible, but they still invite them over or make a "Nice job!" phone call when teams win anyway.
Thankfully no one will remember this in the future because who cares if a baseball fan (especially Mets fans, these days) acts like a big prick? That is called "Tuesday" so whatever. #congress
