"you can spend your money better than the government can spend your money...unless, of course, it's to subsidize captain cheney and kid dubya's dashing adventures fucking shit up in the middle east! woo-ha!"
@alorsenfants: One of the saddest spectacles of our lifetimes--and a symptom of the right/left equivalency that has rendered the political dialogue to spectacular heights of inanity--is the legitimizing of this newspaper, which is owned by a cult leader and convicted tax cheat who believes he is the modern day reincarnation of Jesus Christ and who marries total strangers in mass ceremonies 20,000 couples at a time. Every pronouncement about and by this "news" outlet should be preceded by the disclaimer, "According to people who work for the mass marrying Korean reincarnation of Jesus Christ,..." To exclude that information is to legitimize and organization that employs slave labor; that absolutely cannot and must not be separated from their editorial blather, which is every bit insane as its unhinged, but close friend of the Bush family's owner, the Reverend Sun Myung Moon, aka, Korean Baby Jesus.
I can really understand why this harsh criticism of Obama's policies has gotten you all in an uproar. How dare Bush suggest that private sector spending is a better way of getting the economy moving than having the government print a trillion dollars here and there, saying that they need to authorize it TODAY! NOT AFTER THE THREE DAY HOLIDAY WEEKEND, BUT TODAY! And then not use 80% of that money four months later. How outrageous.
If it takes the former President coming out and making a speech in favor of Supply Side Economics (of which Bush is not the sole proponent) to draw attention to that pile of crap "stimulus" package that was crammed down America's throats in February, then I'm okay with it. You should be too. This is your savings and salaries that are being devalued. Why wouldn't anyone want questions being raised?
Now before I get the "where were you when Bush was running up the deficit" crowd coming after me, I didn't even know Gawker existed at that time. Otherwise you would have heard me talking about that spending being the greatest failure of his Presidency. However, in this area, Obama hasn't made any change. He merely amped up the spending. I don't know who said this first, but it' not my original thought: "The biggest difference between Obama and Bush is not direction. It's velocity."
Watch it ChillbearLatrigue. You're talking to people who are begging the government to take their earnings. You're talking to people who honestly believe in total government. You're talking to people who no longer believe in the original ideal of free enterprise.
With all due respect, most of us just see you guys as people who have totally missed the point in favor of spitting up the same old, tired, devoid of new ideas points. As for Republicans trying to "nip this in the butt" (sic), please inform me of how many Republicans tried to check Bush's spending when they could have done so.
Shut up George W. Bush. Just STFU. You didn't have anything to say when you were in-country and now that you are out (Texas seceded, right?), we don't care what you think. Please send in Laura to lunch with other millionaire wives so they can help the poors because certainly all of you can relate. Jeez. Sickening, the whole lot of you. Phuck it sideways. Aggravation at the complexity of so much ignorance.
The economy, a dwindling middle class, a stupid war, our standing in the world... Its going to be a big clean-up job after your turn in the kitchen so just stop, please. We have to live here, in case you forgot...
And Drudge. Don't get me started on that 3-day-old clam.
There was a mystery written once and read twice maybe in which a full-page ad in a newspaper showing a bedraggled cop on the beat one dawn under the legend "After A Long Eventful Night" was yanked, thus messing up the secret code of numbers runners, and all because its facing page depicted a winsome couple just arising from bed. It was a great story and I think everyone should go read it now.
It's not a conspiracy, but it is extremely bad taste and they obviously used the Obama children's image because the public is drawn to them. To use their image in a story about murdered children is a "little" over the line.
@Zanzibar Buck-Buck McFate: It is more than a little over the line, but it shows poor judgment more than anything. Stupidity, yes; conspiracy, I think not.
@momof3wildkids: That's why I put "little" in parentheses. Also I use parentheses just to piss off some people around here who don't like these punctuation devices. So to them, I'd like to add- make sure you picture me doing air-quotes at the same time (with eyebrows lifted, natch).

Exactly.
"a story so big and important that the Times didn't bother to insert quotation marks before posting it to their website."
And when you wrote that -- I'm just getting to coffee this morning -- I read 'New York Times'.
I mean if you want to refer to the London Times as 'the Times', I'm okay. But this litterbox liner? REALLY.
