"The dirty little secret of Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys ... is that they’re all about sex. Sure, it’s often sublimated sex aimed at an audience between the ages of nine and 15 — but they are, indeed, smoldering with unmistakable eroticism. That is why — surprise! — they are so popular."
@Mr. B.: That was an interesting and entertaining read, but I think the author's really reaching to prove their own point, when they call "hidden compartment" passage "unmistakable eroticism".
Still a good read and definitely worth a few minutes, but one also has to consider that though his point might have some kind of (fantasy?) relationship with the originals, they still make Nancy Drews today.
(Though my daughter prefers the old ones because a lot of the new books are crap... hmmm?)
@Trai_Dep: No, Cain was Adam's second son (and Seth was his third), and so Cain's sister would have been Adam's daughter. And it's called the Electra complex - Jesus, how do I know all this stuff? I terrify myself.
I realize it's just part of their template, but after looking through the gallery, I thought the "Share and Enjoy" toolbar header could be a little unfortunate.
My God, Sheeple! Can't you see that the little girls are engaging in an act of appropriation, that they're recontextualizing the signifiers of their objectification? It's just so obvious!
Just because they make something, doesn't mean you have to buy it. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Don't get all pissed off because it exists. Slutty kid costumes are a good resource for little people that need slutty costumes.
@blix: I hear Iran is secretly developing Weapons of Mass Sluttiness. Drop it on a country and all of the females start wearing jeans that are cut off right at the butt.
@Btwbfdimho: One the right hand, I'm shocked, shocked and deeply saddened at this. On the left hand, I'm thoroughly jealous at the little bitches because I didn't get to have a pink limo or anything like it pre or post menarche. Damn them to Jonas Brothers Hell.
