Biden was the most inscrutable choice, ever, for VP. Instead of "change" Obama brought out an old hack, who had trouble with both truth telling, even during the campaign, and with inserting his foot into his mouth. Oh, to know what kind of negotiation that was, to get him on the ticket---except, perhaps to allay terrified old white guys who feared a woman and a (half)black man on the ticket would bring on the apocalypse. #joebiden

apparently I am in the minority, but I love Joe Biden! I think he's like the lovable Steve Urkel of the White House. He comes in, says stupid stuff, knocks shit over, and is like "Did I do that?" Oh Joe. #joebiden

Joe Biden is everything thats wrong and fucked up with congress. This dope won his seat in the Senate when he was 29 and has never had another job until being VP. He has learned about as much about how the country works from his perch in DC as Palin learned about Russia from staring at it. He is walking proof we need term limits.

And he doesn't drink. I don't trust people who don't drink, unless they've already been alcoholics. #joebiden

Why is it that I feel compelled to defend Gawker's subject matter against the editors/writers at least once a day lately?

Either this new crop of staff writers is utterly fucked, or the editorial direction has taken a nosedive, or both.

Is there some negative correlation between the quality of stories and the quality of AJAX/CSS? #joebiden

I should have added before that it could well be my OS and browser causing headaches most readers don't experience. And in all fairness, I haven't been reading long enough to judge contemporary content against the past. #joebiden

Not sure what point you're trying to make, Amrita... that you think Cheney's worldview makes some sense? That Cheney was initially popular, before everything he did brought his popularity rating to a low of 28%? I love it that Biden is willing to call a moron a moron. This is a ridiculous post. #joebiden

I'm absolutely NOT a supporter of ANYTHING Dick says... but, Good Lawwd, Biden, Bin Laden will always BE a part of the issue. I'm sorry, I guess if you had the prez saying this I could understand... but, uh, Joe? Nope.

That being said, why are we posting crap from Fox News anyway - I thought we weren't supposed to take this stuff seriously?

And if anyone (Foster) is still paying attention, as of about 12:30 today, the trend includes a 27-year-old police officer who was shot in the head but is still alive (in very critical condition).

In the West Englewood neighborhood, about 10 miles from Oprah but not far from where Jennifer Hudson's family lived.

@ArmCandy: Jesus, fuck. This is insane. How does this not hit the national press cycle? Why isn't the Obama administration using this during their daily briefings? Has gun control totally fallen off of the Democratic agenda? Sorry, but this kind of violence deserves to be politicized. Less guns = lower odds for gun violence.

@Foster Kamer: i dont know why this shit never makes national news. i live in new orleans, and we routinely have "bad weekends" where five or six people get shot and killed. not to mention the mere "assault with a deadly weapon" shootings that happen on a regular basis. the other night in my neighborhood i heard an entire clip go off, and there was no mention of what the fuck that was all about even in the local news the next day. shit is ridiculous here. recently, a college couple was abducted and murdered, and it came out that the female called 911 twice while in captivity and no one even answered the phone. but no one seems to care...

and im sure it has NOTHING to do with the race/class of the victims.

I'm always a little annoyed by national/new york coverage of any news related to Chicago since no one is ever compelled to give specific information. "West Side of Chicago" is about as generic of a descriptor as "west of the Hudson. If there's any commentary to be made about the Olympics in regards to the string of violence--kind of far reaching since most of these incidents would be occurring far outside the zone of athletic housing and events.

@EaterLover: Listen, I'd love to get into the neighborhood-by-neighborhood breakdown of Chicago, but I'M NOT FROM THERE. I made the geographical distinctions to show how wide apart they were from each other (or how close together, given certain instances). And of course the Olympics won't be in Chicago's grittier neighborhoods; that doesn't mean there isn't any spillover. To put it New York speak: ten murders in one weekend in Bushwick are still going to affect perception of crime in New York if the Olympics were held, say, on the West Side Highway around 57th Street, though native New Yorkers might know better.

@Foster Kamer: Figuring out where these neighborhoods are is fairly easy. Ten minutes of research online would take care of it. Really.

Also, if Chicago does get the Olympics, its more run down neighborhoods will indeed host most of the events, housing, etc. Another fairly easy fact to research.

In other news, the good legislators in Springfield completely gutted a series of post-Blago anti-corruption measures last week.

Item #1 on the list were improved disclosure requirements for campaign "contributions".

It's getting to be like the Mississippi of the North up there. So, um, good luck with the Olympic bid. Of course, China pulled it off by making a bunch of empty promises about press freedom.

So actually, nevermind. You'll be fine.
