Ye lubbers not be needin' t' be fearin' we pirates. Wi' the Great Depression pullin inna port an' th' economy heavin' to, it not be worth our while to be goin' after ev'ry random cruise ship lookin' fer booty.
We be learnin' new ways o' high finance t' be fleecin' th' fancy 'ristocrats outta thar ducats an' doubloons. The Madoff Gambit be worth more than ten ship o' th' line and does not be carryin' th' same risk o' shrapnel an stabbin' an' such.
We be savin' are excursions only t' be sinkin' ninja ships now.
I think that ninja scum be on the ropes, me hearties!

And then there is the very famous Hitchcock Presents episode in which David Niven is sort of behind on his gambling debts and hits on a wonderful scheme to back his heavy bet on the ship's pool about mileage covered per day. Teevee was great during the golden era.

Agreed! The main danger I would face is that I would lose my fucking mind, never to be regained.
I actually have a friend who just went on a cruise, (we are very, very different) loved it, and every photo and tale she presented me from her trip confirmed that it is my (and probably your) worst nightmare.

I was told of hundreds of people so excited for cruise ship food in the dining hall that they would gather en masse and then bum rush when the doors opened like cattle.
Men in speedos participating in a "Sexiest Legs" contest.
The most enthralling challenge of the day being finding an empty lounge chair. And then spending the whole day there drinking and looking at legions of people strolling around in swimwear and pastel-y vacation gear.
There is so much more... but I think I've told you enough for now. The human mind is fragile and I don't want to push you over the edge.

Some of them were scary like 'severed hand'. Who would have thought that considering that we used to travel by boat regularly?
