I have to say her recognition of the rarity of am guy going "shopping in the girls department" when Kris chose a Donna Summer song during disco week was one of my AI all-time highlights. She was so on the money with that one.

@CeCeF1: It's funny, because I've always felt the best way to stand out with a cover is to go for a song by a singer of the opposite sex. It's surprising to me that more men don't do this; women tend to do it a -lot-, and with masterful effects.

Well, except for that Scarlett Johanssen Tom Waits album.

@eleusiswalks: I once fell in love with a guy on AI for covering Melissa Etheridge's Come to My Window. I have no idea why more men don't cover women's songs--seems like an easy A to me! (Also awesome--David Cook's Always be my Baby from Mariah Carey week. Did not see that coming.)

In all fairness, it's difficult to justify giving someone a multi-million dollar contract to sit on stage stoned and repeat the same five canned statements while interspersing a non sequitur every now and then. Paula should be happy she lasted as long as she did.

I was always under the impression that the Kara situation last season was working toward the goal of eventually phasing Paula out, and that Paula had been very reluctant to go back on the show anyway because of that contestant who killed herself. Based on that, it doesn't surprise me she won't be back. I will miss the lunacy though.

And I turned off American Idol for the first time, ever. I walked, stunned, out of the house, feet blindly finding their way to the deeper shadows beneath the delicate arbor just south of of my manor house, hard by the vine-swaddled ravine.

I turned my eyes to the starry welkin, Orion cartwheeling and blurred through tears.

Why, God, I wept aloud, why?
