I'm so tired of (Democratic) campaigns that don't have the guts to go negative and twist the knife when they have got the goods. Whatever Plouffe did to help derail Edwards should be a point of pride for him, as I suspect it is. Anyone who refuses to educate the voters about his opponent's liabilities has failed his obligation as a candidate. #davidplouffe
Considering the dirt that they could have dug up on Edwards, I'd say this is almost a non-story. Its only significance is the out-sized shit-storm it caused for the Edwards campaign. Media and the right wing going apeshit over a non-story is not new, but it's not always predictable.
I am shocked! SHOCKED! that a campaign manager would do something like that.
I am also shocked! SHOCKED! that Matthew Broderick isn't playing him in some upcoming Broadway musical about Barack Obama (with Nathan Lane as David Axelrod and Megan Mullally as Hillary Clinton) #davidplouffe
@OMG! Ponies!: And now you've conjured a much more pressing and bothersome controversy: Who the hell can play Obama? Who, OMG! Ponies!, WHO? #davidplouffe
Politico seemed a little more on the up-and-up back then, no? My impression is they went cuckoo after the election, when there was no longer the intense political interest to drive traffic and they had to invent controversy to keep people coming back. #davidplouffe
@fuckingoldman: Eh, you didn't actually trust them to begin with, anyway, did you? I actually figured they were very capable politicians who mostly were allied with my own beliefs and interests, so this doesn't actually have any bearing on my level of faith in them at all.
As far as it goes, dropping a $400 haircut seems awfully minor, given everything that's come out on Edwards since then. #davidplouffe
@Go Like Hell Machine: You're right, I don't trust any politician, never have. I grew up in Jersey and learned at a young age about corrupt politicians, I had family in politics. The only place that can compete with Jersey in political corruption is Chicago. #davidplouffe
@fuckingoldman: I don't know... I'm currently working for a couple months in Manila, and Filipinos laugh at me when I talk about any sort of political corruption. It's like comparing a pee wee football league to the Denver Broncos.
I've been traveling in a lot of younger democracies recently, and I can't help but wonder if we should re-examine our own (highly, highly, highly corruptible) Democracy's past and compare it to the present before we get too defeated. #davidplouffe
@Go Like Hell Machine: I believe that. Since I've been paying a lot more attention to what's been going on politically, I've started to question whether democracy is the best system. I think it's the only viable system in a country as large as ours, but I have no idea how we're going to fix something that's so broken.
So how do you like the Philippines? My wife and I are looking for someplace to go for a couple of years and we've been leaning pretty hard toward Asia. If you want to PM me I'd be very interested in getting your opinions on places you've been. #davidplouffe
Recent medical research has revealed the existence of a gene for "pursuit," and that it can be set off by assholish maneuvers like this. Further research reveals that the pursuit gene is especially active in bloggers.
