    Maybe I'm a rube (it's been suggested) but I really enjoyed "Public Enemies." Michael Mann's movies are always uneven. This one was pretty good, though, mostly because he had really good actors doing really good work. And It was nice to see Johnny Depp acting normal for once in his life.

    Denny's was something we chose in college because we had no choice. Late night we could drive to Denny's, or to the diner where one of the waitresses dressed in black-face for Halloween.

    Old men who can't sleep and go to Denny's to read yesterday's newspaper, drink coffee, and eat pie at 3am will tell the manager, "please turn down that godawful dreck; I can't hear myself think" and the manager will comply and the kids will go drive around and smoke pot in their cars and Denny's will be back to where they started, with old people who drink coffee all day for 89 cents.
