I love dogs, just not in a restaurant or on a train. I feel sorry for the pukey pug, the passengers on the train, and the cops who had to waste their time with this nonsense, (oh, and whomever had to clean up the puppy puke).

@hilikusopus: As a sidenote, I'm guessing 1) she learned her lesson, and 2) the dozen or so cops that showed up or already there, as is sometimes the case, were just interested in the mess this lady had created and not there to "take her down." I don't like abuses of power, period. But I also don't like it when people call cops "pigs". These guys deal with the shit you're not willing to, and for a pitance I might add, but nobody seems to remember that. They seem to remember when a dozen cops (probably on a platform in a show of force as an anti-terror tactic) rubbernecked and ticketed an animal lover. Those NAZI pigs! Right....

I don't like when people call cops "pigs" either. Generally, they are good guys who risk their lives for less than I used to make for sitting on the internet commenting on Gawker all day. Yes, there are some *really* bad eggs like this Hasidic asshat who should be dealt with accordingly.

Disagree with you on the dog thing. You don't know if she was taking her dog to the Vet, etc. The dog puked IN the carrier - not all over the place - because she was following the rules. Nobody gets hurt because somebody needs to take their cat to the Vet in their carrier, on the train. What should she do, walk across the WB bridge with it? I worked at a shelter in the city and fostered cats and transported them in their carriers on the train - no one was hurt, in fact, I got a lot of smiles. So - get over it.

I think it is disgusting when people eat on the train and get their food all over me and everything...but, I can't change it!

After reading the article, I'm even more disgusted with this woman. Who carries a sick animal around in a handbag during rush hour - she's carrying two bags, a backpack and a canvas pack and neither are appropriate for transporting an animal, nevermind a sick one. if she's a foster to this dog, you'd think she'd know better. How inconsiderate do you have to be to bring a sick animal onto the train while it's packed, knowing full well the dog has "issues" and gets sick on a regular basis.

i saw the end of it. there were AT LEAST a dozen cops. really bizarre.

no one passing by had a clue what was going on.

i feel bad for the girl, but i DO remember they had her on the sidewalk and she was screaming bloody murder...no one had a hand on her.

the bruises? i can't say if she was mistreated or not in the actual subway (which is never ok) but hey, you mess with a cop and they grab you, you're going get some bruises.

i feel bad for the effing dog- she should have known better than to bring it in a hot, stuffy carrier on the hot, stuffy subway.

aaaaand lastly- yes, some of the comments on freewilliamsburg are just unbelievable. idiots.

And nobody told that young teenage Hasidic boy on the subway leering at me last summer that he wasn't supposed to look at me in my t-shirt and shorts. I realize it was lots of hormones plus never getting to see female legs and arms, but it made for a very uncomfortable subway ride.

I'm not sure what I like least here.. NYPD's continued displays of assholish absurdity or the fact that this person kept her dog out in the elements, unprepared, long enough to become overheated (which I'm assuming is not a long amount of time for a pug, but still...)

@eXXX: Yeah - as an owner of two pugs, I can verify that it does not take much to get a pug overheated. A day over 75 degrees can cause my dogs to struggle. I can only imagine being confined in her tote causd some distress for her dog.

I am also not surprised when she got to the station, she found the cops at the front desk playing with the dog. However, it is terrible that the cop felt the need to traumatize this woman by threatening to have her dog put to sleep.

@Mediahohoho: It is, you can't be arrested just for not having ID. But how is the cop supposed to write a ticket if she had no ID (real name, address, etc.)? He would just have to let her off-if not having an ID got you out of tickets, people would just say they didn't have them. So it is okay in this case as long as it is only for the purposes of verifying personal information to write a citation, and the person is not actually being charged with failing to carry ID, which would be unconstitutional

If he's a Hasid, he isn't allowed to touch any woman other than his wife and mother. I discovered this when a male cousin with whom I had been close all my life and kissed everytime I saw him, became a Hasid. When I went to give him a kiss after his "conversion" he literally put a hand out to stop me. That simple gesture hurt me so much and I have distanced myself from him since.

So, the cop being a Hasid makes no sense to me at all.

According to Brodigan, the arresting officer's name is Witriol (badge number 942838). After seeing a photo, she identified him to us as Joel Witriol, who in 2006 became New York's first Hasidic cop.

So where were the cops when that dude shit himself a few weeks back and made the entire car of people flee from a crowded E train at 6 PM? Or why didnt the cops pull off the obviously meth head homeless girl who decided to lay across an entire row of seats and when they asked her to get up she screamed at them instead?

People who appear to have money will be ticketed or arrested by the cops 100% sooner than those without it. Pulling homeless addicts off the trains equals about three rounds of papers, including dealing with Bellevue, as opposed to ticketing and harassing a dog owner who brought out a sad little dog. I would love it if I ever saw cops on the subway stopping anything dangerous that I have seen other than giving college kids drinking tickets.

I just want to have that statement written again so you can read it again, and realize how ridiculous it sounds. Your larger (and admittedly, I'm sure, frustrating) point about cops who don't do anything about homeless drug addicts aside, I'd like to point out most of the jail and prison population in this country IS homeless drug addicts, or more broadly, poor people.

Notice how it says "arrested?" That's more than a ticket, which is what I was talking about. And kids who get a citation for underage drinking or people who get speeding tickets still go before a judge in many cases. I work in the criminal justice system, so I know plenty about it, thanks. Learn to read.
