    I ran into Whoopie in Vegas this weekend wandering around the Wynn. It took every ounce of strength I had not to yell out "Oda Mae Brown!" Anyway, she is much tinier and prettier in person than you would think, but Barbara can definitely do much better. She should have that Carrie Prejean girl on The View, I hear she's quite a flirt.

    It's interesting to watch these old-media types struggle to remain relevant. Facebook, Twitter and a few other things are siphoning the phonies off into a sort of "Darwin Awards" of content. May their fame rest in peace 140 characters at a time.

    though I could certainly live without the seemingly ageist stuff in this particular post, dear Richard, Gawker was better when there was some quality control as to the inclusion of commenters out to vent their spleens in the most tired, inarticulate way possible. I guess pageviews are all important. but what could make Gawker enduring rather than a diary of this particular decade or so might be to keep the dialogue herein percolating in a thoughtful, dignified way. but we've had this discussion before. and perhaps that notion seems dispensable.
