Also, his "singing" is atrocious. His notes were either flat or sharp (quite the accomplishment) and his tone was eerily reminiscent of a buzzsaw at a logging camp.
We have already seen the "sexy antics" as pioneered by Madonna, aped by Britney, and lampooned by countless comedians. At this point, the pointless dramatics are simply a cover for a lack of talent.

I'm over 18. I no the kid's name because of google search but had knew no details about him, except he was once on AI.
The last time I checked, AI had a HUGE under 18 fan base.

This whole thing is just so absurd. Girl on girl action is practically a staple of prime time tv these days and its not even a blip on the radar with no panicked cries to save the children. I'd been more concerned with teaching today's kiddies such blatant hypocrisy Lambert came on after 11pm, so he didn't violate the family hour. Is gay sex so threatening to folks? What do you think those boys have been up to all these centuries?

I am curious about your claim that "consenting adults have often taken the opportunity to express themselves in a simulated sexual manner" on the AMAs before. Any examples?
(Also, while you claim that girl on girl action is a staple of prime time tv these days, I must have missed all of the recent instances of simulated cunnilingus on network television. Can you give me a list of shows that have done this, so that I can add them to my TIVO list? Thanks).

Well Christ, Adam, I'm gay and you're really, really making me hate -you-. There is nothing edgy about you. There will never -be- anything edgy about you. You are famous because you were on American Idol, a program so very un-edgy that the only way you could be less edgy was if you won Nashville Star.
You can't just wake up one day and decide to be David Bowie, decide to be Madonna -- hell, even decide to be Lady GaGa, who may be new on the scene but has at least worked her way to the top through talent, the sweat of her brow, and actually having an artistic viewpoint. Adam Lambert is the worst kind of factory girl: the kind who thinks that because they're famous now, they're on par with real artists.
There's no excuse for this kind of senseless, canned ~shocking~ and ~outrageous~ behavior. There's especially no excuse for it when you cover up the fact that you have nothing to say by making it about your homosexuality, because that's not just incorrect, it's irresponsible. There are people out there who really -are- getting treated abominably because they're gay. You're getting shit because you are a vapid pop-golem who laid a serious bomb on the stage. Deal with it.

People are not complaining just because of the "ghey" kiss, and I think folks are reaching with that. Whatever gets folks rile up, tho. Some people complained about Janet's boob on CBS for 2 seconds, why wouldn't you expect the same people to complain about simulated oral sex?
I'm sure SOME people are complaining because of the male on male smooch but, then again, some people complained about the Madonna/Britney/Christina Aguilera smooch.

Now - I'm not buying that whole difference between network and cable television as an excuse. If a parent is so concerned about programming that they need to rely on the FCC to regulate every last word and image, then maybe having a television set in the house isn't the best idea. Perhaps these parents would be more comfortable encouraging their children to read.

You also have to consider the fact that this was the guy's first major televised performance that wasn't on a reality show. He hasn't banked the same type of musical credibility that other performers have, and doesn't get the same amount of leeway. If some new flavor-of-the-month 22 year old came out on stage and rubbed a woman's face in his crotch as part of his first major performance, that would certainly have repercussions.

While I'll grant that the major networks have to compete with the cable guys for viewers, and ergo, ad dollars, there is a difference in the standards they are held to, to a certain degree. (Yes, I know, EVERYONE has cable now, and with the digital conversion, the lines of demarcation are further blurred)
And while I don't know for sure of what came out of the MTV incident from a few years ago, I do have the feeling that PTC long ago gave a blanket 'disapprove' to MTV, so they didn't have to get up in arms everytime something they deemed offensive was aired.

My point is that I have a very difficult time digesting the concept that Disney operates from some sort of moral high ground when they develop child stars and a vast majority of the girls are...erm...molded into Lolitas. The only message that action conveys is that the sexuality of an American teenage female is fair game but the sexuality of a ghey male is off limits.
Disney's moral high ground fluctuates with profit. So long as Disney is raking in the dough, it has this amazing ability to rationalize anything.

My point is that it was the Dick Clark Awards, which up until this year with the explosion of the blogosphere and the advent of embedded video hadn't been cool in a couple of decades.
I don't think people were expecting a performance better suited for MTV, SNL or Don Kirshner on ABC at ten o'clock in the midwest and to be honest, I don't know how much it has to do with him being gay.
It mostly looked very rough to me.
