The national mood does demand businessmen in handcuffs. But the press has to offer something beyond garden variety fall guys. Like everything else in this country, there has to be an element of glamor involved. But Bernie Madoff is no looker. But maybe the sons can help sex up this dull scandal.

Is it possible that there is a whole lot more of this going on?

@ohnothimagain: Not on this scale. This is larger than the WorldCom scandal.

For a long time I'd hear about Ponzi shemes and think: Why are these con jobs named after a character from Happy Days? Was there an episode I missed where the Fonz defrauded the Cunninghams? Then I heard it correctly and realized my error.

Can't. Resist. Must. Type: You want some nice fat scapegoats (like billygoats, but scapier?) then look into the people that spend weekends at Bernie's. Poor guy, he was probably in a bind in which either he agrees to front a giant scam or he loses a family member.

A billion here and a billion there, and pretty soon were talking serious money! 50 billion? Holy shit.

@IndianSlipper: What would you even DO with 50 billion? I'd buy a giant house, a jet, a fountain in Venice, and then I'd just run out of ideas, and sit around in a bathtub full of gold dust, wondering what the fuck is on television.

@Pope John Peeps II: Although 50 billion would buy many more seasons of Pushing Daisies. And then I could just pay for new seasons of Slings and Arrows.

Hey Paul Gross, Susan Coyne. I'll give you a million dollars each to just start writing again.
