When I read Michael Phelps apology for being caught on camera smoking a bong, I felt a bit wonky myself. It was as if I was wearing yesterday's damp Speedo. You know that feeling? Uneasy in the stomach and the constant urge to bring your knees up really high when walking in an effort to attract more air to the tiny wet garment. Why was I feeling this bizarre gamy deja vu? Can't pin-point it. Then it hit me as I was driving to lunch, DING! This feels weird because his apology is almost word for word the exact same apology Phelps issued when he got popped for DUI in Baltimore after the last Olympics. That's it! A carbon foot print copy. I bet you forgot about that DUI.

"I won't do it again, I promise." Mike you said that 5 years ago. What gives? I mean hey the kid is just 23, but what an insulting apology. That is why he was dropped. Great swimming machine, but not so much upstairs.

I mean, yeah, we all love him when he's shaming the French and Chinese and Italians and winning us our golds and making us feel all proud of Team USA and shit, but when we find out he ---oh my god!!---smokes pot and drives after having a few drinks???-- we shit all over him.
Seriously! Even if you've never smoked (or eaten) pot, how many of you have absolutely no contact with anyone who has? And that goes TRIPLE for driving after drinking when you ought not keep in mind for most women that's for two-three hours after one bar-size beer). Come the fuck on. (You assholes in New York and anywhere else they have decent mass transport don't count, BTW. The rest of the country DOES FUCKING NOT.
I am so over this. I am so over this country pissing all over people who do things that 1) don't really hurt any fucking one else and b)do things the rest of us do or have done. E-fucking-nough. Grow-fucking-up. Fucking the football player who brought a gun into a NYC nightclub got less heat than this.

@VirginUrgin: i hear you, but driving drunk does have consequences. i don't know what phelps blew in his brethalyzer but hundreds of people die every year for someone driving drunk, so that part of your argument i CAN not agree with. thankfully, i am a NYC native so i did not have to deal with the driving drunk part (thanks taxis and subways).
