I smell a lawsuit. Praileau showed up to work drunk (probably not the first time) & he accesses various units, for what reason? His co-workers describe him as having a "flash temper." Why couldn't they have fired this guy? Is the hotel unionized? I guess the guy has worked there since he was 17, but what job can you show up to drunk & not be sent home or fired?
That doesn't make any sense. And, as Judge Judy says, "If it doesn't make sense, it's a lie."
I have known some mean drunks, but none of them ever broke into a stranger's room and stabbed them in the neck, with no provocation. There must be more to it than that.
@pollyannacowgirl: you know the stuff will leak out over time. The "quiet guy, kept to himself". The domestic abuse 911 calls. No one goes from "12-year-employee" to "crazed murderer" in a blink.
I HATE cowards who murder women/fight dogs/abuse kids because of their own power and control issues. Get some fucking therapy. Fuck.
@FormerEnglishMajor: I mean, in all fairness: wouldn't you kind of hate anyone who murders women (or men, for that matter), fight dogs, or abuse kids, regardless of the reason?
@cerealcommas: most of those ARE caused by power and control issues. Not that any murder is excusable (except if you're tracking down Philip Garrido - then please be my guest), but I can more "understand" the heat of the moment/heartbreak of catch-your-spouse-in-bed-with-someone-else murder. Which, of course, is a tiny minority of the time vs. the "do as I say" crap that these useless wastes of human skin dole out.
Story passed among us schoolboys playing in Central Park (many years ago) was that one evening the lights in the E and the first S atop the Essex House went dark, land the hotel had its busiest night ever!
A friend of mine lived at Essex House thanks to her sugar daddy while her apartment was being renovated and the place always struck me as being slightly surreal. I would never have predicted a knife sticking out of a neck (not to mention the sweat pants!), but the overall ambiance is Euro-weird.... Although Iman and David Bowie resided there as well!
What is with all the murders lately? Just this weekend they found another family dead in Florida: a mother and her five children. The father fled the country, headed on a plane to Haiti.
I think the Daily Beast was supposed to keep a running tally of how many senseless acts of murder were committed this year, but I never saw that again.
Is it the nature of the media that this is what gets reported, so we see more stories about death? Or is this really something?
@Airvault: Well considering that NYC is set to have it's lowest murder rate in over 80 years and murder rates throughout the country have been steadily declining since the 1970s (and are rarely has high as they were in the 1930s).
I'd say, yes, this is what gets reported. Gruesome murders bring in the viewers. (Especially because, well if they were common, they wouldn't be "news").
After a bizarre experience with another hotel guest using their access card to get into my room, I'm on a one woman campaign to get everyone to use that latch lock on the inside of their hotel doors.
Those cards aren't reliable (and many of the employees have them, of course.)

I sleep with the lights on and place balls of crumpled newspaper around my bed.
