Working for a pranksterish rapscallion sounds stressful, but fun. Like the big bad boss might hide your paycheck "scavenger style" or spike the coffee machine with acid.
What strikes me more than anything else about the VF piece is it's length: over 7,500 words. That's a lot of ink spilled over one relationship.
How does that compare to the length of Emily's own NYT magazine piece, mostly about her past relationship with Josh Stein? I'ver prepared a comparative chart with the answer: Click here and find out.
@MisterHippity: Excellent chart and analysis. Another way to pad is to run a long string of non-exemplary commenter insults along the lines of "you suck" "what a tool" and "go jump off a bridge, why dontcha?"
All I would like to say is that Vanity Fair publishes some VERY well-written shit. That article covered a lot of ground that I followed closely at the time, and included a few things I had forgotten or never noticed, but still managed to contextualize and summarize the facts and allegations into a thesis about the quality of writing on the internet. Damn good stuff. Bravo!
Wow... y'know, it's articles like this that actually make me reconsider coming to Gawker. Not because I find the article itself offensive, but because the whole thing seems so masturbatory.
It makes me wonder to myself, just exactly who are these people to me and why do I care about them? Then I realize that I don't... and I find myself thinking, then why do I come here for this?
To be really honest, guys... I would be very, very surprised if anyone cared about this story outside of those within the actual confines of your industry. I know I don't.
I was taught from an early age that performing fellatio (mock or not) before your boss and/or coworkers, was only a good idea if there were no cameras around. That advice has gotten me far in life. Thanks, Grandma.

Ha! I imagine Denton sort of sees it that way, too - except for the very end of the story, of course.
