I am so proud to be from this region of Massachusetts. Yes, this woman may live in the area, but the response from other politically concerned citizens in the room verifies my feelings about my home state: where statements like hers may have provoked clapping and more shouting in other states, it produced only audible shock on the part of other people in the room.

@mattfour: I'd guess you never heard Barney Frank speak up about that because that ad NEVER AIRED.

MoveOn held an open user-submit competition to find a new ad. Tens of thousands of videos were uploaded; that was one of them. When MoveOn became aware of the video, they deleted it from the submission site.

Trying to bring that video up as proof is like pulling up a rejected comment from Gawker and claiming it ran as a post.

@limber: Ok, fine, how about the dozens of images portraying Bush as Hitler on the web or at rallies?

I'm just saying that for all the comparisons of Bush to Hitler, I never heard a single Democrat speak up against it... and now here we are.

The real question is: do you agree with characterizing a politician such as Obama or Bush as Hitler? I personally think it's wrong in both cases.

@mattfour: That's your "real question"? Easy enough to answer: no, I think that comparisons with historical villains are silly and overly simplistic, not to mention cloud the issues at hand. It's like me shouting at my mother that she was "Soviet Russia" when she made me pool and divide my Halloween candy with my kid sister -- yes, she was redistributing sugary wealth between an 8 year old and a 5 year old with a cold, but she didn't follow up with a trip to a gulag, set up an insidious intelligence network among my friends or commit the occasional random murder.

Resorting to the "Hitler!" argument is lazy, childish, and broadcasts to the world that you are not intellectually fit enough to grasp and argue the actual topic at hand. That goes for the left and the right.

....that said, I do not recall the Democrats championing anyone who linked Nazis and GWB. I don't recall real-life instances of leftist crowds toting Nazi-esque propaganda. The Republicans and their media mouthpieces do not appear to have the same decency threshold.

@limber: I live in NYC, and I've seen plenty of "leftist crowds" touting such propaganda. Without question, on numerous occasions. I've also seen the idiots who want to convince me that Obama is really a Muslim and not born in America. Ridiculous.

Hell, a simple "Bush Hitler" search on Google nets 7 million hits.

And I don't see the Republicans "championing" such behavior. They should be denouncing such behavior, along with the "birther" movement. And on the same token, the Democrats should have done the same during Bush's term, but they didn't. Such is politics these days in America. Why actually discuss issues when you can call the other guy a Nazi or a Socialist?

What is WITH the right-wingers calling everyone Nazis? In fact, I'm not sure how this health program is in any way a Nazi program. I didn't hear any references to showers, gassing, extermination of ethnic minorities, plans to conquer Poland with healthcare, etc. etc.

For all the crazies leaving unapproved right-wing comments, now's your time. If you can coherently and politely state your view, I'll promote your comments so everyone can see your view! Please, no ethnic or religious references--just because Jesus wouldn't approve doesn't mean it's a bad plan.

The majority of the people showing up at town hall meetings accusing Obama of being a Nazi are actually left-wingers on the far fringe of the party. They are not right wing... while a few may indeed be Republicans, the majority are not. Don't believe me? Check out the website for the La Rouche PAC. If you look at the Obama-Nazi signs that protesters are carrying in many of the photos, you can see that they are from the La Rouche PAC. Here is a link for your reference:

@princess_peach: When it comes to the healthcare reform debate, Larouche is explicitly and vocally aligned with the right wing. The Larouche list of complaints about health reform matches line-for-line with what some of the major GOP talking heads are using.

It's probably most accurate to describe Larouche as an cult leader and opportunist who aligns himself with the losing side each election cycle in order to profit from the anger/victim status the crazy folk on each side are feeling.

He's run for office on like 7 different political platforms so when it comes to getting on the ballot he is pure opportunist.

Calling someone a "Larouche Democrat" is similar to calling out someone as a "Ron Paul Republican" -- total nonsense. Both are aligned with a party purely for ballot access reasons.

My $.02 of course.
