This could be the work of disgruntled Caribou or Seattle's Best patrons.

Why is no one looking at Dr. Evil and Mr. Bigglesworth?

My favorite thing about this is the news (take your pick on what news outlet) describing this as an "explosive device". As if we're in Iraq or something. 20 years ago, this would have been called a pipe bomb. Just as dangerous, yeah, but without the obvious (and intentional) connotations that scream "terrorist!"

And this isn't the first nor likely the last time somebody who is not a terrorist at all is going to use a pipe bomb in NYC.

But I'm sure that when they're caught, Ray Kelley is going to call them terrorists anyway, and the media will play right along, thereby further diluting the meaning of that word and making us all both unreasonably scared of teenagers (they're all terrorists!) while forgetting that there are still actual bad guys out there.

Then she realized the sidewalk was no stage set.

"This is the real deal?" she said.

By "this", I imagine she meant New York City. Or possibly - life. TV shows may be based on real life? Who knew.

Those teenagers must have been really angry at that wooden bench, which their baby bomb cracked into a few pieces.

My guess is that Starbucks wanted to close that location and was looking for a way to do it while getting some free publicity.

@I Love New Jersey: Not sure how they could parlay being bombed into the type of publicity that would improve their image. I mean, if they were a disillusioned ex-starlet or a smutty heiress, sure. But "expensive shitty coffee, now with more bombings!" seems like kind of a loser.
