You see, any time I was ever confronted on this the person doing the questioning would always ask, "are you the fake Nick Denton?" Well, I never, at any point, referred to the character in the blog as "fake Nick Denton." It was always "Nick Guido Denton." If someone would have approached me and simply asked, "are you Nick Guido Denton?" I would have outed myself on the spot. But that never happened.

And for the record, I got a little drink at a party and told Blakeley and a few others weeks ago that I was the one who did it, though I suspect that some of the Gawker tech guys knew long before then. I think those pricks hacked into my email account or traced my IP addy or something. I vividly remember getting a rather cryptic email from Owen Thomas one day. It was one line and it read...

"Your privacy is an illusion."

That's about the time that it stopped being fun and I gave up on it. After all, half the fun of a fake blog for both the author and the reader is the speculation over who's behind it. Once I got the feeling that the anonymity was evaporating...well, what's the use at that point?

But hey, it was fun while it lasted. One Gawker media site editor even threatened to stab me over something I wrote about her! Good times!
