despite the fact that her name has been a punchline for fifteen years, she still is all "I didn't come here to make friends you don't know me" about a passing jokey reference
That honestly makes me a little sad. Like the time Weird Al made a spoof of Gangster's Paradise, and Coolio got pissed-off like the song was "Brendas Having A Baby" or something so incredibly above mockery, instead of some song that accompanied a film in which all 98lbs of Michelle Phieffer schooled some inner-city kids. Like Coolio, she could've made so much money off of swallowing her pride and taking the cruel hit society dealt her with some humor. But, no, she decided to go down like an embittered little whimp. Good call.
She used to work part-time at the bar across the street from where I worked in SE Portland. I walked in there one day and was like, oh, holy shit, that's Tonya Harding behind the bar. She would work there, it is rumored, to pay off her video poker debts. Class-ay.
Sad. I wish I didn't know that, when she was a little girl, her mother used to spank her with a hairbrush rink-side if she didn't perform well. Knowing that makes me feel just . . . sad for her. Bang choice and all.
I watched that whole special, and boy was it special! Those bangs! The weight gain! The cheap ill-fitting clothes! The two-bit appearances in front of kids who have no frickin clue who she is! Tonya Harding, the gift that keeps on giving!
